I know Andromeda was made by Gene Roddenberry, but I don't remember if Babylon 5 was.
Andromeda is basically where the captain of the starship Andromeda was caught on the edge of a black hole, and so time stopped for him. He was "rescued" by some criminals who were going to sell the Andromeda 300 years in the future.
Babylon 5 is harder to explain. It's the only Babylon project that worked out. It's a place where peace talks happen, and a bunch of things. Then there's a war, and I just summarized the whole thing. -
