I've never understood when in tv or books, someone's like, "Well, that's what anyone would say if they did/didn't do it."
So, what would the person that actually did or didn't do it say, then? "Yeah, I did/didn't do it. Please don't kill me, I'm only lying."

Tbh, I'd probably say the truth in a guilty sounding way because of nerves and then get slapped into jail.
