Sit back, lemme tell you guys a story.
So this homophobe entered our LGBT+ group chat. She was my friend's mom and she had been looking through her phone and her kik account (which was a pretty biitchy move in the first place, but it's gets worse) and she saw our texts, so she responded, of course. She said to stop influencing her daughter with our gay lifestyle. This friend was bisexual, by the way.. Okay, then I responded calmly (and maybe even a little sarcastically) to leave and that not everyone agreed to her opinions, stuff like that. So, in retaliation, she called me the devil. This time I replied in complete sarcasm, saying that I'm pretty sure I'd notice if I were the devil, with the red and the tail and the horns.. she told me to stay away from her daughter and the whole situation was kind of laughable because this grown woman was acting like a child. She even had texted me on private chat before she texted the group chat, she specifically targeted me for some reason.. guess I don't know the strength of my own gayness xD anyway in the private chat I kind of silenced her after our conversation, which I'm hoping was in realization. I apologized, "and not because I'm wrong, or right, but because you think there's such a clear and fine line between the two." Anyway. That was that. What a nice lady.
**My friend got in trouble too. She said her mom sent back the new phone she was getting for Christmas, along with other gifts. I feel sorry for my friend, but I don't regret anything I said. I'm proud to be what I am (which isn't even gay lol) and since most of the people in that chat didn't say anything, I had to speak up. It's not the 90s anymore, dude, just grow up. The 21st century is the century of acceptance. My first major homophobic experience, huh? I think I did well. (Of course there were minor homophobic experiences, too, in school in stuff, but you know, that was a true, fully-fledged homophobe)
Hope you guys liked this.. storytime? Tell me what you think. Even if you think some things I said were wrong. -
I worry for your friend. I hope that she's okay. She may need some extra support during this time.
You should also try to understand her mother's perspective. All she's ever known, all she's been taught, is that being gay is wrong, and that you will go to Hell for it. She's scared for her daughter, scared that she really will go to Hell. Does that make it right? Of course not. But things aren't always as simple as right and wrong, like you said. There is no fine line. -
Yeah I'm trying to be there for my friend but we have no classes together this year so it's difficult. Just "Hey!" When we pass in the hall and hugs in the lunch line. Thanks for your perspective, I think I understand how she feels but it doesn't justify a lot of the things she did. Did her religion teach her that it's okay for her to call people the devil just because they are different from you? I truly fear for our future it this is what people are thinking.

That really sucks. Have you heard the song Spectrum by Boyinaband? That song and this situation are similar.
Like I said, she's scared. It's not just that gay people are different, she likely believes that they really are sent by the devil. She probably honestly believes you are associated with the devil. It's what she has been taught.
Fortunately, however, the world is becoming more accepting to the LGBTQ+ community. That's not to say that one day 100% everyone will accept them, but there is progress being made.
