Yeah, because when chromosomes cross over, it makes the offspring more genetically varied. This is important to the survival of a species because without genetic variation, everyone would be exactly the same and the species would either all die or all live instead of some living and some dying. Survival of the fittest wouldn't necessarily be a thing anymore.
