Lucky Star is actually pretty awful. It's bland and replaceable. I had to keep from scoffing when the mangaka described Konata Izumi as a "rather unique girl" because she is one of the least unique protagonists in current anime. She's definitely a Mary Sue, though her Mary Sue-ness admittedly isn't as bad as some (coughcoughKiritofromSAOcoughcough). It was funny seeing the artist contradict themself, describing Konata as both "energetic" and "lazy". ??? What. And she's supposed to be amazingly good at sports, but she just sits around watching anime all day. You know that's not how it works, right? You have to practice to become that good. Even with that aside, her character is just...boring. She has the same "haha shes lazy how cute" trope going for her as 80% of every other female anime protagonist. The series itself is incredibly forgettable. You could replace it with any other moe moe school girl anime and get the same product, maybe even something better.
I haven't seen the anime, but I have read the manga. I like the anime opening dance, though. The animation is nice for the dancing parts. However, the series lacks any creativity or any....well, anything to make it memorable besides the opening. -
