Okie well it's about this girl who runs away from her home when her father gets killed by her mother, whom wanted to kill the girl and her sister. (Her mother already killed the sister, that's why she was on the run) but finds herself trapped when she has no food or shelter, later on, she finds out that her mother committed suicide from a local newspaper. And their lawyer comes to the girl giving her adoption papers by a distant family member who is willing to take her in. She's about 16, and the 'distant family member' is actually a rich guy in his 30's (At the end of the book she finds out that the papers were wrong and she was supposed to go to someone else and that guy actually had nothing to do with her.) Anyway, the guy gives her food and dresses and a four poster bed and blah blah all these luxuries, he gives her books to read and lets her roam around in the gardens at night if she pleases, one night, he tells her of the story of his lover, whom he wanted to marry but she got killed and all that was left was a crimson red dress that he kept in his room to remember her, later the guy wants to kill the girl because she looked too much like that man's lover, but she begs him not to and tries to run away. She manages to go but can't help but remember all the food and the bed she had when she was with him, on her way in the streets, she finds heself returning though she is scared to death and unsure of what to do, she sits in the garden, hiding, and stumbles upon a small tunnel, when she goes on, she finds that the guy was there, staring down at a bunch of girls in old, worn out clothes, sitting by a small pond dumping cups of water over their heads in order to wash, the guard kicks them repeatedly for whatever reason, when the guy turns and sees the girl there, he captures her and makes her one of the prisoners, although nobody will tell her who those others girls were and why they were there. They conduct a plan to get out by ganging up on the guard and stealing her keys, all the girls get out, except the main character girl, she goes back upstairs after she set her fellow prisoners free, she wants to settle scroes with the man that trapped her there and for trying to kill her. She goes up some strange stairs and finds herself in the house in a room with a four poster bed and a grand piano, she remembers her passion for music and plays a little after changing in a dress she found on a bed, just then she hears the guy behind her saying that he expected her to come right there, in the end, she ends up locking him in a closet, and after playing a certain tune on the piano, a small lock in it's side opens to reveal a key, when the girl takes it out, she finds that it opens a giant and heavy wooden box, that has nothing in it but a letter: The man was going to send it to his lover, who died before he could ever send it to her.
