Thread Topic: (What do you guys think a troll is?)
-
( Just want to ask this. I've seen some of the newer users ( Those who've joined after 2015 really is who I've seen it from ) call completley harmless users , trolls because they explain something or say something the person doesn't like. I fully understand someone getting harassed calling the person who does it a troll. However I was told I was a troll after ignoring a newer user who kept coming into my thread and posting after I told them that if they wnated me to stay away from them I'd like them to leave me alone. That was one isolated case of that happening, I've seen other users being called trolls for dumber reasons so I really just wanted to know exactly what everyone thought a troll is?)

Someone who repeatedly breaks the rules.
-
( Alright thanks for your opinion. Just so you know I don't mean just on here I mean wherever a troll is what makes them one.)
( My personal opinion is that a troll is someone who goes o of their way to make people feel angry , upset or just manipulate situations in a negative way for their own entertainment *cough Izaya and Aizen cough *) -
^What Sphinx said. Or someone who does that and sorta tricks people, if you know what I mean.
Atleast some newbs have some sense. -
^Late post
And what Lyle said. -
That Gurl NewbieA person who goes out of their way or breaks the rules ti repeatedly offend another person. A bully, put simply.

I know this was bumped but I can give you a description if you still want one
-
Yes I would like a description of what troll is. Just so I know for sure taht when I'm ignoring users I don't like , trying to talk to me I'm not trolling them.
-
Someone who annoys the s--- out of me.

Alright, I'm finally able to say as much as I wanted to here.
We can tell users with names like "bot01" or "troll king" are obviously trolls. Additionally, accounts made to spam are- spoiler alert- also trolls. However, keep in mind that being annoying doesn't equal troll.
I did some research a bit ago on this topic. Here are some quotes and sources of what an internet troll is.
"The term has come to mean those behind intentionally provocative online actions intended to cause grief or incite an angry response."
Source:
"An internet troll is someone who deliberately provokes others online by posting offensive or inflammatory comments, or taunting others. In essence, theyre online bullies who operate under a cloak of anonymity to cajole, threaten and abuse others."
Source:
"A troll is someone who deliberately provokes others online, typically through inflammatory, offensive, or provocative comments. Their intent is to upset others and elicit an emotional response (preferably an angry one). In the pursuit of their goal, trolls might rant (often on a topic unrelated to the one at hand), make ad-hominem attacks, post death threats, or spew hate speech.
Its important to note that not all angry posters and commenters are trolls. Writer and author Tim Dowling explains in a Guardian piece entitled Dealing with trolls: a guide: There is a grey area between spirited dissent and out-and-out trolling that houses the passionately misinformed, the casually profane, schoolchildren taking the piss and otherwise intelligent people who don't put spaces after commas. For the sake of convenience, this group is often referred to as the internet.
Indeed, the internet is full of people who want to share their opinions. But, unlike those angry users who share their negative, but sincerely-held beliefs, trolls may not believe a word of what they write. They've chosen their words because they have the highest likelihood of upsetting others."

Additionally, here are some qualities of trolls:
-Spammy username that is not meaningful
-Targets a specific type of users (i.e. Newer users, Homosexuals, Women)
-Antagonizes, pesters, harasses, or bullies people. Keep in mind that this is usually over a long period of time and occurs SEVERAL times, not just once. A one-time antagonist can easily be a user just arguing/disagreeing and not intentionally upsetting you.
Assumed to be the owner of several spam accounts. Enjoys targeting users that other trolls have posted about.
-Doing anything and everything they can to annoy you and get a reaction out of you (Whether they are spamming or insulting you)
-Occasionally has terrible grammar
-Someone who is impersonating another for either malicious intent or to annoy you
-Bumps threads including sensitive material, arguments, or other information/topics that isn't bumped for a conversational purpose
-Might also be someone who posts information about you/someone you know to embarrass you or "dox" you -
;)
-
they cross a very blurred line between somewhat rude user and troll
-
"(i.e. Newer users, Homosexuals, Women)"
pffftttt aHAAAAA -
Trolls and bullies, believe or not, are two separate things. If humanity would stop being dense objects wandering around mixing and generalizing two different kinds of online personas together that would be great, man.

Drew I'd like it if you didn't bring your problems with the mods into my thread. This thread is meant for me to get a clear answer as well as opinions for users. I'm asking you to take this to your own thread.
