I don't so much mind having disappointed the dentist since they conveniently failed to mention I'd have to pay $60 out of pocket even after assuring me over the phone yesterday that everything would be covered by my insurance

Have you had the same mentality since you were just a kid?
Can you ever face reality growing up so quick?
It's either hard at work or hardly working at all. -

I've always wondered why people smoke. I know all about addiction, and that's understandable for older people, because in the past, cigarettes were marketed as an item that could improve your health. I'm wondering why younger people start and continue, though. We all know it's terrible for your health, so I guess I get it if the goal is to die, but there are a lot more fun ways to kill yourself, and they aren't half as slow. What I wonder is, what's good about it? You can drink to get drunk. That's fun. That's a big reason people drink. But what does smoking do? Does it taste good? Does it make you feel warm or alter your mental state? What about it makes people want to do it?

that was really wordy but I wasn't sure how to phrase my question so that it could be understood

These people seem to agree for the most part that it doesn't have much of an upside. The theme I'm seeing is:
1. It makes you feel like a rebel.
2. You might get something of a "buzz" at first.
3. The most pleasurable part of smoking comes after you're already addicted, and then the pleasure comes from the satisfaction of feeding a craving you created for yourself. -
"The first month or so you smoke you get this awesome buzz from the nicotine that makes you feel a little light-headed but very content and euphoric. The feeling is amazing and you start to crave it. But it isn't long before that feeling starts to go away."
