Well, in the book I read that reminds me of this soap theres a mad scientists who focuses on genetic engineering. He successfully changed three teenagers into a large bird like creature, a mutant manta ray, and a large boa contricter. The change was gradual and extremly painful, and when they were turned back they still had some qualities of the animals they once were. For example: gills, amazing sight, light weight, strong skin, etc. etc. Also, when they came in contact with certain elements they were able to change back into the animals they were and then back into their human selves.
"So, how long of you guys been here?" Alyia asked, "I don't remember seeing any of you on the plane." -

'A cruise ship sank. I passed out in the life raft, and I woke up here.'
