tongue NewbieA great band has to be creative and they have to have a strong artistic point of veiw. I'm thinking about Mastodon and the way they've blended heavy metal and prog-rock, or Green Day in how they've redefined the rock opera, or System of a Down mixing metal with hardcore, Eastern textures and striking melodicism. A great band does something bold and fresh that no one else is doing.

I don't think lyrics matter so much if you have a loud rock sorta band but if it's like a folk-rock band the lyrics are the main thing.
So:
Rhythm
Guitar
Drums
are the main ones.
Lyrics/voice optional. -
And they have to saty original and not sell out.

music... defintely the music... the instrumentals need to enrich the song not make it sound worse... and defintitely the tune... the way the notes contrast with the syllables and words need to make the song catchy and really good. and it has to appeal to a large group of pplz in order to be popular.
