Not like YouTube or Dailymotion, those are obviously legal. But there are free sites (like putlocker, megashare, hdmovie14, 123movies, ffilms, etc.) that you can watch full movies on. They don't seem to be illegal, but it sometimes feels wrong to watch a movie without paying for it. When my mom found out I was watching movies on those sites, she flipped out and said they were violating copyright and that I was breaking the law and might have to go to jail or something. I didn't really believe her, but I was wondering if they are actually illegal.

The sites themselves are not illegal. All these sites do is provide links to OTHER sites, the legality of which may be open to discussion, but the "Share Sites" as they are called are perfectly legal, as are their users. Even of shut down and charged, users of Share Sites have not committed any crimes and would not be charged. Both the sites and the users are fine, and I encourage you to continue to engross yourselves in the historical and cultural masterpiece that is the cinema.
