Everyone remembers the Disney Classic of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with the animals and the seven dwarves that help her along throughout the tale, well this is not that story. This dark and twisted version of Snow White is about a princess who gets locked away in a tower by her evil step-mother. When the princess escapes she asks for the help of a huntsman who was sent to kill her. As the story goes on, the huntsman falls for the princess and they take back the kingdom by killing the queen. Sounds familiar, doesnt it? Maybe you have heard parts in other stories. As the story of Snow White changes with each different telling, so does the story line and the characters that are placed within the story.
The plot or story line is similar to the original Disney classic that every movie of Snow White tries to follow. However, the story of Snow White and the Huntsman has other elements to it that makes the viewer think of other movies. The story line is easy to follow, but at points throughout the movie the viewer might ask themselves, was that really necessary to the movie? For the most part, the story line is good. It plays off of the original movie. There are just a few confusing parts throughout the movie. For example, when the dwarves are standing in the Sanctuary Forest and they are talking about how Snow White is life itself, they dont explain why she represents life (Snow White and the Huntsman). There were many parts throughout the movie that werent very well explained making it confusing for the viewer. Another example would be the white elk that was standing in the pond. The dwarves never explained who or what the elk was and he is there (Snow White and the Huntsman).
The characters were a bit sketchy as well. The character of Snow White, played by Kristen Stewart, was not all that well developed. She started off as a scared and unbalanced girl who wanted nothing to do but run away from the queen. Towards the end of the movie she did a major flip and became more, vengeful. She was going to kill the queen and she was going to bring everyone she could to do it, no matter how many people died for her. The Queen, who was played by Academy Award winner, Charlize Theron, was a very power hungry woman who wanted to take over the kingdom and its people to gain more power than she could handle. By the end of the movie she was more concerned with staying young forever and it drove her crazy. She was determined to destroy Snow White to keep her beauty. The Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, started off as a drunk who was paid to kill people. He did not care about anyone, not even himself. As the movie drifted towards the middle you can see a change in the Huntsman character. He begins to care for Snow White, and eventually he falls in love with her.
Character change is typical in any movie that you watch. So is the development of characters, which this movie had none. There was no development of these characters. It was as if the director had said, this is the way these characters will be and that is that. They gave very little information on why the Queen was so vengeful, or why Snow White was so gentle and afraid. They did not explain why the Huntsman drowned himself in alcohol and why he got paid to hunt people. There was barely any reason as to why these characters were the way they were.
The dialogue in this movie was better than the characters that had to speak it. Although Kristen Stewarts acting was not in sync with the others. The way she presented her lines were as if she was just reading them from the script and not actually saying it. She put very little effort and emotion into her part. There were some parts in the dialogue, however, that were unnecessary. The piece in the movie, where Snow White has killed the Queen was not needed. Snow White states: You cant have my heart (1:58:39) as she watches the queen die. If the Queen is already dead, then of course she cant take the heart. That shouldve been very self-explanatory.
The setting of the movie was very, odd. There were many different parts of the movie that shouldnt have even been there. In the Dark Forest, there is this hallucinogenic mist that comes out the ground. That seemed very weird for something like this. The forest took on the persons fears, which to me seems like something that would come out of a Harry Potter movie. They also had a troll to guard the bridge, and would eat people. Snow white had managed to send it away. It was as if the producer and the director had just decided to take bits and pieces from other fairy tale movies and stick them into one movie call it a film. They took a piece of another princess, Rapunzel, by having Snow White locked away in a tower. The Sanctuary Forrest looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland with a mixture of fairies and mystical animals.
Every movie has a spin of their own when making a version of a classic, but with changes in the storyline, comes changes in just about everything that the movie has. This movie was exactly as it sounds, weird and twisted. The dark and twisted world that is now Snow White has shamed the classic. This movie would not be in my list of movies to buy. If someone would like to see this piece that could be called a film, then I would recommend that they rent it from their nearest blockbusters or red box. -
I love the movie snow white and the huntsman
-
-It wasnt confusing when they said she is life itself. Maybe for you, but not for me and all of my family. She is life itself because she can heal wounded, and she has a pure heart. Your supposed to peice this together yourself
-again, with the elk your supposed to peice it together yourself. Its called context clues. Makes it more interesting.
-the people at the end of the story volunteered. She killed revenna because if she didnt more and more souls would be lost, or her beating heart would be stolen
-she was always obsessed with staying young forever all throughout the movie
-the huntsman changes character so much because in the begining he was still greiving over his late wife. Then he starts to get over her and starts to fall in love with snow white
-revenna was so vengeful because her mother had died and had protected her with the spell. "Only by fairest blood is it done, and only by fairest blood is it undone". She wanted to stay young because it was her protection, and because that was just her
-the huntsman drowned his sorrows in alcohol because like i said, he was still greiving over his late wife
-the huntsman gotpaid to hunt people only by revenna. And only to hunt snow white. And he was chosen because he has been in the dark forest before and survived, so he knew its ways
-the reason you say there was no explaination to why these characters were the way they were because again, context clues, and inferences, and cliff hangers. The director wanted these 3 things to be running through your mind
- kristen stewert put 'verry little effort and emption' into her lines because that was how the character was. Not how she was.
-wow. Just wow. You took that bit a little too literally. She was saying that for emphasis. She said "you cant have my heart" to revenna because revenna had wanted her heart all throughout the movie, and snow white was making a point about it
-the mist didnt come out of the ground. If you actually look closely, you see that it is coming from these things on the ground that break open at the touch and lets the gas out. How is that odd? Thats how the forest was.
-yes, they took the troll from under the bridge. It fit very well there though. And ya know why she managed to send it away? She managed that because, as the dwarves had said, she is life itself
-yes, repunzel was locked away in a tower. But so were other fairy tale princesses. If i remember correctly, sleeping beauty, i beleive snow white, and fiona (from shrek) were also locked away in a tower.
-the sancuary forest looked nothing like alice in wonderland
-dude, it was freekin supposed to be weird, dark and twisted. They made alice in wonderland like that too.
-everyone i know loves the movie. We bought it on directv and recorded it so we will always have it unless we delete it, and we watched it as a family, and everyone loved it.
Sorry if i sound rude or annoyed or mad or anything like that. It just kind of bothers me that you took alot of it too literally, and didnt look in it for context clues. If you did look for context clues and used that to infer, you wouldnt be so confused with the movie. Sorry, but i had to say my thoughts on your thoughts -
PurpleClouds Newbiehello this is very long to read so im going bye

Its an evaluation essay... Your opinion is your own. I didnt like the movie and thats what i wrote about. So dont try and correct what i thought. Your not the one who had to do a paper on it. You can think whatever you want. And if you paid attetion to it you would know that the huntsman was being paid by other people to hunt others. Thats why he got his ass kicked. Snow white doesnt heal the wounded. No wear in the movie does she heal someone. If so the dwarf wouldve lived. So that state is invalid. I have 4 other people who didnt like the movie. You wouldve have also seen that at the END ravennas goal was to stay young forever but in the beginning she had a different purpose. You obviously have a biased opinion and are upset because i dont agree with the movie. But f--- off dont push your opinion on me. I posted the paper for mike to read not for you to rant and put it down.

She heals wounded animals -_- like the horse that was lying down and imediatly got up when she touched it. And dude. I posted my opinions. It is legal for me to do that ya know. I live in america. And the first amendment is freedom of speech and freedom of press. I can have my own opinions. And you can have yours. Im sorry if it came off as if i was trying to force my opinions on you, because i honestly wasnt. I havd my own take on the movie, as do you. And i wasnt ranting. Again, I WAS STATING MY OPINIONS. Thats all, nothing more. I dont really care if you dont like the movie or not. I WAS SIMPLY VOICING MY THOUGHTS AND STATING MY OPINIONS. I wasnt correcting anything. Your opinion is yours and mine is mine. So if you wanna say f--- off to me, then cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it

Hasnt anyone ever told you sometimes its best to keep your opioins to yourself? The horse wasnt wounded. There was no wound on it whatsoever. I didnt ask for your opinion. So next time think before you let it out
