I kinda want to read Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother now...
"If you strip the book of its parenting manifesto message, then there are some redeeming qualities. For one, it does provide a glimpse into the lives of many children of Asian descent in America, albeit, a bit an extreme example. For all those who wonder why Asians are the most educated ethnic/race group in America, and yet are grossly under-represented in executive leadership positions, this book offers some insight. The Chinese parenting philosophy demands hard work, high results, but virtually no innovation."
I think that 'method' should stand for all Asian groups =.=' cause it's not only the Chinese who do this...
the replies are priceless. -
I think it's sad when any parent controls and manipulates their kids like that. :C It's not just Asians, pageant mothers who makes their daughters go out on stage to compete for who's more beautiful or talented are just as disgusting. I want to be a mother who encourages her kids to be successful, but give them the freedom to do so in their own way. And to be kind and loving through it all. That's what my mom did, and I can't thank her enough. .3.

Kids need some kind of discipline and guidance, though. If you leave a kid to their own devices, they're just gonna play video games or Barbies or s---. And if your kid acts up, you're not doing them any favors by saying "oh, that's just the way they are". But pageant mothers suck. In that case it's just parents living through their children.

This is how to raise and not raise children. -
I played video games and Barbies growing up and I turned out fine. .3.

Not really what I meant, Ana. The idea is that if you only leave kids to their own devices, they don't learn and internalize certain values, like hard work. I think that a child should be allowed only an hour of TV or video games a day, and only after they finish their homework and chores. That usually is a good way to instill work ethic into children. I also believe that it is important to find an activity outside of school and home that your child can enjoy, really just so they aren't bored.
