I would have that happen, where she kills him, but it happens in another one of my stories that I came up with in...grade 3 maybe?:
Katrina and Morriwell are in love and engaged. Then a slave ship comes and sells them off to two different countries and they don't know where the other is. Morriwell gets stuck as an enslaved footsoldier while Katrina, being extraordinarily beautiful, lands herself as one of the king's wives. Over time she forgets about Morriwell, though he never forgets about her and she kills the other wives and crowns herself queen. She slips the king poison and is now supreme ruler. She enslaved an elf and gets the elf to grant her immortality (the kind where it's impossible to even commit suicide or catch illness or be wounded). After a while, her country and Morriwell's go to war. They still know nothing of each other's whereabouts. Part way through the battle, Katrina is battling a footsoldier. She thrusts her sword through his heart
and his helmet falls off. Realizing it is Morriwell she is overcome with grief. She wanders aimlessly through the land for the rest of eternity, killing people
