Dear
DiaryDreambook,
I’m going to put down some facts in here, just in case I get amnesia or something (I’ve read books where that happens).
- My full name is Kendra Louisa Thompson
- I am eleven years old
- I have two sisters (Zenna and Jane)
-My (imaginary) twin sister is named Thalia Renae Thompson
- So, I guess I have three (???) sisters?
- I have a HUGE crush on Andrew Stevens, a boy in my class
- I love the color purple.
- Black and white and grey are the best when it comes to pictures
- I only eat chicken nuggets with honey mustard
Those seem like pretty important facts, don’t they? Well, there’s one last thing. This is NOT a diary. It’s a dream journal book.
- Kendra
A DREAM I HAD LAST NIGHT
I walked into the classroom. Great. This will probably be one of those dreams when I’m in only my underwear. That or I didn’t study at all for finals. Aren’t I supposed to not have these dreams until high school or college? I looked around for the teacher. He (or she) wasn’t there. I was in an empty classroom. And it didn’t look like a classroom I’d be in. It looked like it was a preschool. Suddenly students started coming in. They were all preschoolers. Then a teacher came in and thanked me for volunteering to help her. But I couldn’t tell her I didn’t volunteer. She went over to her desk and put baking soda, vinegar, a stack of cups, and red food coloring on a tray and carried it over to me. Let’s see... baking soda... vinegar... they’re making baking soda volcanoes! I get it. I stood next to her as she explained. Then she told me I’d have to help them pour in the vinegar. So, they made their volcanoes quickly. Just as I was about to pour the vinegar in the first volcano, a giant dinosaur appeared next to the volcano and destroyed the classroom.
Weird, right? I’d better watch out for dinosaurs... that or I’m going crazy.
Friday
Okay, this isn’t my journal; in fact, it’s not even for just writing journal entries in. But this is Thalia, Kendra’s twin. I’m keeping track of what she does, because this is actually pretty amazing. But, I hope she doesn’t see this. After all, why would she? I’m only a figment of her imagination.
Kendra sat in the classroom, all the way across the room from Andrew Stevens (most likely daydreaming about him instead of paying attention). She had her notebook open, though. (I peeked at it; it had little doodles of hearts and the name Andrew in it.) Suddenly a teacher walked into the room. She was younger; I knew she was one of the preschool teachers. She went up to Kendra’s teacher, Mrs. Adams, and conversed quickly and quietly with her. Mrs. Adams nodded, and the preschool teacher turned toward the class.
“Okay,†she gave the class a quick glance then continued, “so, in my class, Preschool Group A, we’re doing baking soda volcanoes. We need help. Any volunteers?â€
Students started raising their hands. Mostly, the raised hands belonged to siblings of the preschoolers and the teacher’s pets. Mrs. Adams looked around the classroom, ignored the raised hands, and instead chose Kendra. She groaned and stood up. She walked up to the front of the classroom, (of course I had to follow, I’m writing this story). As Kendra stepped out of the classroom, she glanced at Andrew Stevens. He was ignoring her.
I sat down in the back of the classroom, blending in with the oversized dolls and stuffed animals. The preschool teacher walked over to Kendra with a tray of baking soda, vinegar, a stack of cups, and red food coloring. She placed it on a desk.
The teacher turned to Kendra, thanking her for volunteering. Kendra was about to point out that she hadn’t volunteered, but was ignored.
“Class, today we’re making baking soda volcanoes. You can come get a cup and color it,†the teacher announced. She turned to Kendra and murmured, “Once they’re finished, you can pour vinegar in the cups. Put some red dye in it, please.â€
(I’m not going to bother to write down the events during the cup decorating, it was quite boring.)
The first preschooler walked up to the desk and set his cup down. The teacher walked up and poured a little baking soda in the cup. Kendra opened the bottle of vinegar.
“It looks like blood!†a preschooler shouted. Kendra rolled her eyes. She poured some of the vinegar into the cup. The red foam poured out of the cup.
“ROAR!†the preschooler pulled a plastic dinosaur out of his pocket and ran it around the volcano cup. He bumped the cup and it fell onto the ground, its contents pouring out onto the floor.
“Kendra, will you get me some paper towels?†the teacher asked calmly, setting down her box of baking soda. Kendra placed the bottle of vinegar next to the baking soda walked to the back of the classroom and grabbed a roll of paper towels. The teacher looked down at the preschooler, who was still holding the dinosaur. “And Tommy, you can go sit down.â€
Tommy walked back over to the group of preschoolers, bumping the table on the way. The vinegar and baking soda tipped over, mixing and creating a red flow of foam that moved rapidly toward the preschoolers. Squealing and squeaking, they moved away from the foam. Kendra stood there, holding the paper towels. I could tell what she was thinking, and it had a lot to do with her dreams. (Hey, sis, this is déjà vu! But she can’t hear my thoughts, so...)
The teacher looked at Kendra. “Kendra, you can go now. Just stop by the office and tell the janitor we need him.â€
(I won’t bother to write the rest, it’s boring.) -
