Chapter 1
Part 4
Curo's POV
I actually kissed Don Halls! I actually kissed him!! He was so shocked when I pulled away! I don't know what got into me. I just kissed DON HALLS!!!! OH, I can't believe that I did that!! What is wrong with me? How did I let myself get away from myself like that? How did I even do that?
I sigh as I watch him walk off. I want to kiss him again, but I manage to restrain myself. I just wish he was happier. He's had such a hard life.
Bay Rum nudges me and I pull a bag of sugar out of my pocket. I pour a little on my hand and hold it out to her. She licks it up and licks my face after. I laugh and pull away, wiping my face off. I push the bit into her mouth, and readjust the saddle and bridle.
I shift a bit and lean against the door of the stall. I find myself looking over to Don's stall and I shake my head to keep my focus on my things. I just want to kiss that kid again. I love him so much. I just need to know what he thinks of me.
Does he like me? Like, love me, like me? Or does he think of me as a friend or brother? I wish I knew. I just want to feel his hands in mine and his lips on mine. I just want him to love me. I should have asked him. Oh why didn't I ask him?? -

Chapter 2
Part 1
Don's POV
I lead my horse to the starting line. I see Curo sitting on Bay Rum, murmuring something in her ear. I keep my hands on the reins and avoid touching Oakhurst's neck. He's unsettled as it is and I don't need to have my neck broken.
I wait for the gun shot quietly. One of the other horses rears and whinnies. His rider, Megan Callahan, brings him back down. I recognize him as Ajax, a wild mustang Arabian mix who has a nasty temper. An Appaloosa horse with gold spots and gold mane and tail breaks forward and runs for a small distance. Her rider, Macintosh Revalier, pulls her back and leads her back to her starting position.
After waiting about 15 minutes, the gun goes off. Oakhurst rears and slips into a gallop. I see Bay Rum, Sun Beam, the gold and white Appaloosa, and Ajax fighting for the lead. Bay Rum breaks out of the pack and sprints forward. Curo leans forward and I think he's speaking to Bay Rum.
I look for an opening and release the reins a little. Oakhurst takes the opportunity and sprints forward. I pull futilely on the reins and try to steer him away. But I can't stop the obvious.
Oakhurst lunges forward and slams into Sun Beam. Then the worst thing that's every happened to me happens.
