This story is set in a different world (although it's never stated whether or not its a planet, but its very obviously not Earth) where every bit of land is a floating island. There may be enormous floating islands (called mainland destinations) as big as continents, ones as big as states, large ones with actual lakes in them, or small ones with little towns. Often, on the smaller ones with towns on them, on the outskirts there will be smaller islands connected, where there may be singular houses, neighborhoods, ponds or forests. I'm currently working on a map, but that'll take a hot minute to do.

The time the story is set in is comparable to Castle Ages, but since magic is used by everyone, the magic related technology is relative to modern tech. Medicines are replaced with potions, lightbulbs are replaced with Illumination Magic (a rather common lower level magic, though will get you a very good job as a Brightperson, who goes and replaces illumination sources anywhere needed), and modern weapons such as missiles, tanks, anything machine-powered or electronic-related. Guns are the most advanced non-magic weapon they have. Swords and many other physical weapons like that are also available, along with crossbows, slingshots, and bows for long distance. Any other weapons are fighting-type magics.

The schooling, economy, trading, jobs, civil rights and intellectual levels are all the same as modern times. There is no racism, oppression based off of skin color, religion, culture, sexuality, native birth place or anything like that (but there is species oppression, sadly). LGBTQ is very, very (I really mean it), widely accepted, as honestly there is no set basic sexuality in the world. People still identify with a label, but there's no set starting sexuality. Gender is a little bit of a complicated matter though, as people in the world have mixed opinions whether to keep the biological genders associated with body parts as the basic identification, or to start identifying all infants as a neutral term until they decide their gender. It doesn't really pertain to the story though, and will only be significant in side conversations or miniarcs.
