shakie shake
A tiny egg shook in a nest hidden in the roots of an ancient oak tree, quiet cheeping and scratching coming from within the confines of the fragile shell. Small cracks spread across its surface, delicate claws poking their way outside, a snout soon following as the hatching took its first gasping breaths of air.
After few minutes of silence the hatchling resumed it quest to escape its egg, biting and scratching at the shell to make the hole bigger, letting out a startled squeak as its movements caused the egg to roll, spilling fluid and the reptile across the ground.
The hatchling chirped and chittered as the amniotic fluid started to dry on its gray scales and in the dark mane of fur that ran from the crown of its head to its tail, but quickly went quiet as it looked around.
Something felt *wrong* to the hatching. It was far to young to understand why it felt this way, or what the feeling meant, but it instinctively knew that it was bad. The hatchling started to stand up, looking around with wide yellow eyes as it searched for the source of the feeling, sniffing at the air.
whats going on?
The hatchling could see deep gashes it the roots and dirt around itself, a strange metallic scent radiating from the splashes of crimson liquid that decorated the earth. A heavy feeling started to form in its stomach as it heard movement nearby, causing the hatching to move backwards against the roots.
"s---. Looks like the poachers and their dogs found this pair" a mans voice rang out, making the Hatching cheep quietly in fear.
"Damn it. Did they find the nest?" A second voice said as the sounds of footsteps moved closer.
"Hope not, pretty sure their egg was due to hatch soon"
The hatchling started screeching as a dark skinned man hopped over one of the large roots, dressed his forest cameo. The man blinked in suprise at the hatchling and crouched down. "Hey calm down little guy" he said gently, reaching for the little raptor, causing it to press itself against the tree roots in fear as it continued screeching.
"I'll take that as a no" the second man said as he leaned over the roots. A relieved smile was on his face.
"Well, we cant leave em' out here all alone. Something might eat it, and those guys are rare enough as it is." The first man said, reaching down and carefully picking up the hatchling, who quieted down as he was picked up. The man got to his feet, holding the lizard close. "Back to the rescue center then. Hey, and on the way we can think of a name for the little guy"
The second man laughed "of course you would want to name it." He said, pushing himself away from the roots.
The hatchling stared up at the man carrying him, making little cheeping sounds in curiosity as his fear faded. Somehow, he knew this man wouldn't hurt him. The hatchling yawned and curled up in the mans hands, feeling tired from his fight to get out of his egg.
tired
The last thing he heard before falling asleep was the first man speaking again; "hey, maybe we can call him Azure, hes got pretty blue stripes on his back" -
"GUARDIAN GET YOUR BONY MUTE ASS BACK HERE!" Angler screamed as she chased after the skeleton, who responded by vaulting over a railing to drop to a lower floor of the tower.
"Never! Your just going to blow him up again!" Blueberry, Guardian's ghost, called back on his behalf. The mute warlock gave his partner a grin as he continued to run, only to make a choked gasping sound when something exploded
"I DON'T NEED TO CATCH YOU TO DO THAT b----!" the Titan cackled from on top of the stair well, a rocket launcher in hand. Guardian turned for a moment to give her a mock salute, glancing at Blueberry meaningfully. The ghost bobbed once and then warped them to the roof tops. A few seconds later the screams of a very angry fish could be heard.
Guardian laughed silently as he sat down, deciding to wait out Angler's rage. He didn't even know what she was upset about this time, he hadn't pranked her recently after all. He leaned back on his hand, looking over at Blueberry.
"i think she might be angry about that drinking contest you had with her yesterday" the Ghost said, spinning in place. Guardian gave him a confused look.
"yes, she did win that one, but you started drunkenly flirting with her about halfway through." Blueberry replied to Guardians silent question with a flat tone, causing the skeleton to snort before looking up at the Traveler.
"So this is where you are hiding this time."
Guardian blinked and turned to look at the speaker, smiling and waving at Embran. "Yep. Want to join us?" Blueberry asked the fire elemental.
Embran hummed in thought, a soft crackling sound, before walking over and sitting down next to the pair. Spark, Embran's Ghost, appeared to hover over the hunter's right shoulder.
Something exploded below them and the two guardians shared a look of amusement at Angler screamed in frustration.
"You know she will find you eventually." Embran pointed out, getting a shrug from the skeleton.
oh, he knows. Hes just hoping that she will calm down first. He may not be able to permanently die, but that doesnt mean he enjoys being blown up several times in a row"
The fire elemental chuckled quietly and nodded in understanding. "Perhaps we should do a small mission to help her blow off some steam." He said calmly, getting a nod from Guardian after a moment
The pair sat there listening to the sounds of Angler's frustration for a little while longer before Guardian got up, apparently having an idea. "Guardian taking her to Crucible sounds like a terrible plan" Blueberry said flatly, earning him a shrug from his partner.
Embran shook his head, chuckling to himself before standing "I'll come with, this will be fun to watch."
Guardian grinned and gave him a thumbs up before leaping off the roof, his coat bellowing out around him.
He landed on the platform below with a satisfying thud, straightening up to glance around for Angler, smirking when he noticed she wasnt in the area before pulling off a glove and lifting his hand to his mouth, letting out a loud shrill whistle.
"are you sure this was a good idea?" Blueberry asked nervously as they listened to the sound of an angry fish approaching. Guardian just winked at his partner while Embran settled on the edge of the roof.
"IM GOING TO KILL YOU!" Angler screamed as she charged onto the platform, a glowing blue spear it hand.
Guardian just smiled, waved, and then hurled his glove at titan(hitting her in the face); before booking it for the jump ships before she realised what happened.
"YOU b----!!!!!!" -
A lone figure walked through a dead forest, the snow crunching quietly under his boots.
'no. Not snow. Ash.' the skeleton quietly reminded himself as he lifted his head to look at the ruined landscape.
He used to live here, he mused as he aproached the decayed remains of a village, idly noticing his Ghost flitting around near his skull.
"Guardian. Are you sure you want to do this?" The Ghost asked quietly, his blue 'eye' shrinking in something akin to concern.
Guardian nodded, lifting a gloved hand to sign 'im sure. I need to do this, for my own sake if nothing else."
The Ghost went quiet for a moment, then teleported away as Guardian stopped in front of the remains of a house. The skeleton lifted a hand and rested it on what was left on the door, a somber look on his face as he moved inside.
He looked around, checking for enemys, before walking further into what had once been his living room and sitting down on the fadded remains of a red couch. In his minds eye he could see how the house had been as if it was yesterday, instead of century's ago. He felt a tight feeling in his chest and cleared his nonexistent throat, moving to stand.
He looked at a pile of rotton wood, then a laugh burst out of him when he spotted a lone rock in the rubble. He stepped over and picked the rock up, his white eyelights glowing brighter as he examined it before putting it away in his pocket.
He then turned and carefully made his way up the stairs, using some magic to avoid actually putting his weight on them. He stopped at the first door, the tight feeling coming back before he went inside
He stopped and blinked, surprised as how good the room looked compared to the living room. He strode over to the racecar bed and sat down, just taking it in. The room looked almost identical to how he had left it, before he had…
He shook his head. He didnt need to trigged a melt down in his dead brothers room. He took a breath, remembering why he had come here.
"Hey Bro" he said, his voice a harsh staticy rasp that painfully tore itself free from his throat. "Its been a while, hu."
He coughed a little, wincing in pain. "The underground has changed a lot sense that kid went through here. Snowdinn isnt very snowy now, cus hotlands magma rose. Took me a while to figure out the new path here."
He noticed his ghost appearing next to him as he started coughing again, clutching his throat.
"Guardian stop. Your going to make your voice worse" Blueberry said quietly, only for the skeleton to shake his head.
"Sorry about that bro. Anyways, the barriers gone. No idea why. Best guess is it just got to old and sense there was no magic left it just fell." He continued, ignoring the coppery taste in his mouth.
"Me, Undyne and Grillby got revived by those things called Ghosts, and we got new names now. Undyne is Angler, grilbz is Ember now, and i just stuck with Guardian. Maybe you'll get brought back too." He clutched his knee as he leaned forward, feeling liquid dripping down his face.
"But its probably better if you dont come back. Dont get me wrong bro, i miss you. A lot. But as much as i think you would love being a guardian like the rest of us i dont think i could stand seeing you die again and again and again" he choked out, Blueberry moving closer to him as his vision blurred.
"And i know you would. You wouldn't be able to kill like we need to and with all the s--- running around that we need to fight and kill and destroy you wouldnt be able to handle bro. I love you but you wouldnt be able to do it" he rambled, deep blue black blood dripping free from his mouth and staining his coat. Blueberry tryed to get the destressed skeletons attention, magic crackling around him.
"Im so sorry pap. If i had any choice i would have never come back and id still be a pile of dust in that damn hall because i sure as hell dont deserve this second chance after i let that freak kill you and everyone else"
"Sans?" The skeletons head snapped up to stare at the tall fish monster standing in the doorway with light purple tears streaming from his eyesockets. Angler had to quickly move to avoid being impaled by several bones that shot up due to the skeletons raging magic
"s---! Calm the f--- down!" She snapped, moving around the bones to get closer to Guardian. "f--- this is not what i was expecting when Blueberry called me"
Guardian curled in on himself at that, fighting to calm his magic down "im-" he was cut off by a coughing fit, covering his mouth with a hand to avoid spraying blood on his brothers bed.
"Dude shut the f--- up you have talked enough for today." The Titan said as she sat next to him. "Just breath. Embers on his way too." She said, patting his back to help him
Guardian whiped at his face as he tried to stop crying, hiccuping softly. 'im sorry. I miss him.' he signed
"Its fine. I miss that goof too. This is his room, right?" She asked, looking around as Guardian nodded. "Its in pretty good condition, considering Hotland f---ing exploaded" she said, getting a weak chuckle from her friend.
'Yeah. I was surprised to. Found pet rock' he signed, pulling it out
Angler laughed at that. "You had a f---ing rock as a pet!" She cackled, making Guardian weeze with her as he put the rock away.
After a few moments the fish stopped laughing. "Well, now that your calm how about we head outside and wait for grillby. He wanted to check out his tavern" she said, getting a nod before Guardian stood up, holding out a hand to her.
She grinned and grabbed his offered hand, quickly standing and then throwing him over her shoulder. "Ha! Like I'd let you walk after your fit punk!" She cackled before running out of the room with the skeleton hitting her back in protest
