ThePinkPineapple NewbieIt was 10th June, 2017. The time was 3 PM. I walked casually into my grandma's garden with my mum, and the smell of chicken and Indian spices lingered in the roof of my mouth. I loved Grandma's curry, and my Grandpa and mother loved it too. Through the scent of the curry, which drifted around the garden like a pleasant fog, I could smell the fish pond. It smelled of a few long dead fish and a little food. I licked my lips. Fish was food --- For my cat form, at least.
"Kaya!" Mum called, snapping my out of my desire to catch fish. "Grandma's dishing up, come and sit at the dinner table."
I skipped into the house and through to the kitchen. With every joyful step, the curry smelled stronger and better. As Grandma handed me my plate, my mouth watered and my tongue began to drown in my saliva. "Dig in, Kaya," Grandma said in a kind voice. I didn't see her, but she even sounded as though she was smiling. I heard my mother talking with her in the lounge. I grew worried as Grandma mentioned seeing a cat in the house. I ate and breathed faster and faster as I heard her describe the cat: Silver tabby fur with white paws, mint green eyes... It sounded just like my cat form!
Mum knew that I was a cat shifter, but nobody else did. She told me to keep it a secret --- I'd either get bullied or thrown into a mad scientist's laboratory. When I'm in my cat form, I am literally completely a cat. I speak cat, I have the senses of a cat and I look like a cat. I talk to my neighbors' cats and go by the name Star. The other cats don't know that I'm a shifter either; they just assume that my garden time is very restricted. I think I like it best this way because everyone else would want the same blessing. I wasn't born with this power. When I first started playing with house cats, I found I could understand cat body language well. After that, I swiped my arm across my chest and instantly fell onto four paws. I think I'm actually more comfortable in cat form than I am in my original form. -
ThePinkPineapple NewbieI began to calm down as Mum assured Grandma that it was probably just lost. She's brilliant at lying, my mum. She can lie about practically anything, and everyone would believe her every word without a shadow of doubt. It might be down to her popularity. I wish I could lie like her. I'm hopeless at lying --- but since I started acting "odd" around cats and talking about them way too much, I have hardly any friends. Even Emily and Jenna are reluctant to hang out with me nowadays.
I had finished my dinner by the time this long train of thought had passed. The spices lingered in my mouth and I had to swallow once more before I got up to get a drink. I scanned the fridge, my leaf-green eyes wide and sharp. I spotted a can of tuna (Grandma knew I loved it) but ignored it for the moment. In the end, I had ice water --- Grandma would make ice, then melt it in the fridge but keep it cold. There were around 12 cups of it filling one of the four white, plastic shelves. I took a blue cup, as it was my favorite color, and took a cool, refreshing sip. I was reinvigorated instantly. I guzzled the rest and lay the cup in the sink. -
