Thread Topic: Give me a topic

and I will try and make a decent (hopefully) poem out of it.
And something that's... not dumb.
Like "sex."
or "cereal." -
A boy's big brother at war.

Last Mile
He promised me he'd be back soon,
so I waited and I waited
and pretend that he was there with me.
and at night when I couldn't sleep, I'd stare up at the moon
The stars in the sky shined so bright
and I was very, very worried for him.
He was my big, big brother
and he went off to the war to fight.
For days and days we wrote to each other
and he'd tell me the people he'd met
and he'd also tell me about the places he's seen,
but one day I sent him a letter, and I didn't get another.
For months and months there was no reply
so i looked up at the moon and pretended my brother was there.
Still there was something missing
so I asked mommy where he was, but she just started to cry.
One day I had to get dressed all nice
and I had to stand around a deep hole
and people told stories about my brother;
I told stories about a game we always played with a dice.
Everyone there was crying
and daddy started to drink a lot
but one by one the people left
And I could imagine my brother sighing.
It took a long, long while
but I finally understand,
my big, big brother wasn't coming home
He ran his last mile.
