Dear Journal,
My mother came back from her intense work routines (mainly in the gardens, it's harvest time) with a note book, pencil, and pencil sharpener.
She told me that starting from now, she'd like me to start writing about what happens through out the day.
It was my birthday that day. My family is very poor, so we usually do not celebrate birthdays. But it was my 14th, and my mum and dad said we should at least have a simple celebration.
They made vanity cakes and lemonade for me and the rest of my family, and my two younger brothers were jealous.
Lily, my sister, was too young to know what was going on.
It was a wonderful day.
I'm not too convinced about writing in here, but it'll kill time, for those hot days where going outside was too dangerous.
And mum says, in a year, when we're all settled, I'll start going to school.

Dear Journal,
Mum is upset at me for not writing in here yesterday, but I was busy helping her in the garden.
Today's a Saturday, and tomorrow is Church Day, so mum made us take a bath.
First was Lily, then Lucius, then Tim, then finally me.
After that, we were set to bed. Lucius and Tim both sleep in the trundle bed, Lily sleeps in the crip pa built out of oak, and I sleep on the floor, since I'm oldest.
Mum let me stay up tonight, to make up for what I couldn't write yesterday.
I couldn't pass up the chance. Today, it was raining during the evening, and I love rain. So here I am, writing in here, possibly telling no one except this book what I do in everyday life.
It's eight o' clock though, and I believe I should be getting to sleep, since tomorrow I must go to church with the family early at dawn.
