Though Esperanto claims to be a language to be used for world
dominationcommon language, it fails in the way that it is mainly inspired by European influence. It uses the same alphabet and characters of our Latin alphabet. Most of the words sound either from a Romance, Germanic, or Slavic language.
Perhaps if enough people ever did become interested, it could be widely accepted in Europe, maybe even the Americas, but it leaves out a large part of our world, especially Asia.
Though it's hard to blame Zamenhof too much, since he lived in Poland under the Russian empire in the late 19th century. He probably didn't know much of anything about the nations to the east. It still leaves a problem for it to be internationally recognized as he had hoped.
Also, even if the language did succeed, there would be thousands of different slangs and varieties because everyone individualizes a language on some level. How you could get 7 billion people to do something together in harmony is simply impossible.
Though, I do still find this language interesting. It's one of those languages I touch base on when I'm in the mood to practice. I just think, as many others before me have said, that learning a different language that's of much wider use is more useful than this pipe dream utopian language.
And... I'm sure you didn't read this. Too big of a block of text. :P
It kinda sounds like an article... :o I'ma columnist.
