no, otaku is generally an insult, it means someone obsessed with anime
its an insult in america too, i dont think the people who call themselves otakus know how bad the japanese really mean it (as in, they REALLY hate otakus)
but an alternative meaning for otaku is honorable house -

I guess I can understand why anime peeps aren't as hated here. I think people here have more of a live-and-let-live attitude, unless there's a Bible verse saying something is wrong. And it's probably ignorance too. How many Americans do you think even know what anime is? We've certainly never had a president who knows what it is. -
