what does "bumping" mean

Bumping is for old threads. It's a general word used to denote the action of "pushing" older threads back up to the top, either to just keep them at arms length or to revitalize the content within them.
Say you haven't posted in your official thread in awhile. You'd find your thread and send a message saying "bump" so people know you're just trying to keep your thread from becoming buried/locked. -
