Thread Topic: Hey gang, latest update
-
The latest update to the site is a revamp of the quiz directory. You can have a look via the link in the top menu. The quiz directory had never gotten proper attention and therefore was never very complete or useful. And finding quizzes on particular topics was not easy.
So I redid it, adding hundreds of categories in the process (many are hidden until they get quizzes added to them). I've given myself tools to add and customize categories, and I've done some prep to allow for users to propose new categories or suggest their quizzes be added to a category. (This isn't fully implemented yet.)
I'm going to be spending time filling in the links and content of the categories so that eventually tons of stuff will be found there. Note that quizzes have to be of a certain quality to be added to a category, that is.. good content, good results, minimal spelling/grammar errors.
As always, if you notice any problems, let me know. -
cool

Do you personally hand-select the quizzes that are added to categories? Will quizzes need to have a set popularity to be categorized?
-
Yes, they're hand-chosen. I'm trying to look around through the many thousands of quizzes to find the ones that are good enough to put in a category. There's no popularity requirement. Quality is only what I'm looking for, meaning decent writing without lots of errors, not too much random stuff (random answers, random punctuation, etc). That said, the methods I'm using to look through quizzes favor those that are more popular or have pictures. I'm frequently reviewing quizzes with pictures, and in general I'm favoring GoToQuiz going in a more picture-y direction. And when I search for quizzes on a topic, I sort it by those that are getting taken and shared the most, because if a lot of people are interested in a quiz, it's more likely to be of good quality. My other method to find quizzes is to just go to a random page on the "newest quizzes" list and look for anything that gets my attention--it could even be a quiz only taken by a couple people ever. There are definitely diamonds in the rough out there that never got the attention they deserve!
-
I'm also developing some pet peeves that I see on a lot of quizzes. One is the last question being "did you like this quiz?" It's usually pointless to the quiz result, but it's especially bad on test-style quizzes where each question has a single correct answer.
Another one that I don't understand is why people make one particular answer to a question seem really exciting. Like, it'll be:
"Who is your favorite member of the band?"
Mike
Steve
JOE!!!!!!
Jeremy
Like come on, what's up with Joe? This kind of thing appears in more quizzes than you'd expect! -
This makes me curious. GTQ Guy, do you ever just take time to take user created quizzes for fun?
-
I find the fact that you're just now realizing these things to be absolutely hilarious.
-
Hey I just realized my quiz was categorized and selected into the "editor's picks! (My Eevee quiz) Thanks, GTQ Guy!
-
Congratulations!

My best friend, Shimmer_, has one of her quizzes on the second page of the featured quiz list. It's called, What Shimmer and Shine character are you?

Some questions:
1. Why are there some users in the "senior" or "experienced" level who have made 0 quizzes?
2. Do polls help level up?
3. I suggest a new button on the front page that leads to polls. (Hey, wait. That wasn't a question.)
4. I also think quizzes like "level up quiz", "random quiz" or " I bet you can't score 100%!" that take literally 10 minutes to create should be seen as spam. (That wasn't a question either.)
5. Is it possible to edit the results of a quiz that was created before the update? (Back when everything was blue)
6. Could you take a look at my nymph quiz? (Please?) I think it belongs in the "mythical" category. (By the way, there are only 2 nymph quizzes in GoToQuiz.
7. I have a nice quiz I made before I had an account. When I try to link it to my account, there was an "unknown error". Is there any way I could tell you the password of the quiz privately without using email? (My mailbox is so full of spam I'm not sure I can find your reply) -
1. Why are there some users in the "senior" or "experienced" level who have made 0 quizzes?
Some people will end up deleting their quizzes over time due to them being either bad, SUPER CRINGY AND BAD, or they just don't want the quiz around anymore for some other reason beyond me. Thus, it makes them look like they haven't made jack squat. On top of that, users can level up simply by being active on the forums for a long enough time.
2. Do polls help level up?
I believe so, but they're not as good at leveling you up as quizzes are seeing as they're easier to make.
3. I suggest a new button on the front page that leads to polls. (Hey, wait. That wasn't a question.)
No to the thing you asked for.
4. I also think quizzes like "level up quiz", "random quiz" or " I bet you can't score 100%!" that take literally 10 minutes to create should be seen as spam. (That wasn't a question either.)
You're right, they should, but the amount of effort it would take to weed out those types of quizzes manually would be exhausting. GTQ Guy would have to code some sort of program within the site to filter out quizzes which, by the end of the day, are ultimately harmless.
AKA, it's not worth making code for.
5. Is it possible to edit the results of a quiz that was created before the update? (Back when everything was blue)
Yes, you can. Although, when I tried to click the 'edit' button on my profile where my quizzes were listed, it sent me to a page where it said 'Your quiz has been created'. Possibly a bug that might need to be fixed.
6. Could you take a look at my nymph quiz? (Please?) I think it belongs in the "mythical" category. (By the way, there are only 2 nymph quizzes in GoToQuiz.
No to the thing you asked for.
7. I have a nice quiz I made before I had an account. When I try to link it to my account, there was an "unknown error". Is there any way I could tell you the password of the quiz privately without using email? (My mailbox is so full of spam I'm not sure I can find your reply)
No to the thing you asked for.
But in all seriousness, I know you're asking the actual GTQ guy in particular for most of these questions. In regards to questions 1, 6, and 7, he might be able to assist you assuming he sees your post.
Hope this helped. -
1. It's possible to level up by being active in other ways, although quizzes are a big help.
2. I don't remember specifically if it's included.
3. Yeah I agree!
4. I agree again. They are wastes of space.
5. I think so... Are you not able to? And if it shows a page saying "quiz created" just look for an "edit this quiz" link on the left side.
6. Will do.
7. What's the link to the quiz? -
[no urls]
Sorry this link may not work because I'm still novice -
