Thread Topic: Just a suggestion

I've had this for a while in mind, and I've seen people post about it somewhere in this forum, but I think we should be able to lock and unlock our own threads to prevent spammers or simply everyone. And if we didn't want to block everyone out, we should have an option where you can select who can and can't post in your thread. It would work like this: Type in the user name of people you don't want entering your thread, then bam, you're done. The can't come in and bother/spam you.
I know it sounds kind of mean, but it can benefit the users here. -
^ I agree. I mean, I see mods that can lock and unlock their threads when they leave/come on. I know some users want that, but I also know the mods are going to get annoyed when asked constantly by the same person.
With being able to choose, that'll be good too. Though, they could interact with each other. If you want certain users to post, there isn't much of a need to have your own locking system. I may be wrong, but still. I do agree though. -
As I mentioned earlier, if this were to happen, a moderator's decision should be final. AKA once a moderator locks a thread, that user cannot unlock it.
However I also agree that it's good that, for right now, only moderators can unlock and lock threads. Why? Locking threads was actually mainly made in order to stop thread bumping and spamming. If we use it for personal use, it ruins the purpose and would mean several threads would be locked every day. :/ I'm aware another moderator has been locking and unlocking their thread, but they did it because we tend to get a lot of harassment even offline. And, in return for allowing them to lock their own thread, we offered to do the same for others.
As for allowing only certain people into your thread, that is NOT the purpose of the forums. People you don't like will come in.. If you want a "private" chat with friends, you should go offsite for that. -
everyone here only really talks to a select few people. this is a glorified chatroom.

Bubblegum12 Newbieyep Iagree with you

They weren't get harassment. They are just stupid pussies that can't take a joke and take advantage of their special privileges. The ethics of the moderators suck complete ass.
-
*getting "harassment"
-
One moderator literally locked their thread because they simply didn't but used the excuse of "trolls or whatever bumping it for fun".
-
um...... you say we aren't being harassed but every chance you get you try to insult us, called me a hillbilly, call me fat every time i mention food, called dark and i stupid/ignorant and that the older mods are babysitting us, come into our threads just to mock us/argue with us even when we tell you to stop, tried to get people to rebel against us (and failed lol), and vague/s--- talk us in your own damn thread. we have a reason to want to lock our threads, because people like you are doing this s---. maybe if you stopped, road wouldn't have a reason to close up their thread. also, we're offering to lock and unlock threads to those who want us to. we've been open to helping people with that.
-
This is a public forum lol. It wouldn't be "public" if everyone locked their threads.
It also can make new users feel unwelcome, and we don't want that! As if everyone isn't closed in their official threads already. xD
I agreed with this idea at first, but then I really thought about it. Nah. I get the whole spammers and trolls point though. -
^Again, stop putting your faith into the newbs. Not once have I seen you welcome yourself to any incoming crowds of new accounts, only instances where they have to awkwardly apply themselves to the atmosphere of your thread. So to be honest, you aren't that much of a newb magnet, and neither are much of the older userbase. It's a fact for some that whenever you post into a newb hotspot, you are in a brooding estimation of 60-85% certain to be dismissed or ignored by these people. I'm done trying to "be welcoming" to a majority of that userbase that won't allow me to.
-
I have welcomed newcomers multiple times if that's what you're trying to say. If they don't acknowledge you, okay? Move on. It's true that newbs go over to other newbs. There's nothing wrong with that either. They are more comfortable with conversing with people like them. Welcome those who actually notice and want to talk to you.
