Thread Topic: Can I suggest something?
-
I'd like to have the Upvote [] and Downvote [] feature under every posts in a Q&A thread.
Before getting to the point, by "a Q&A thread" I mean all threads that are made just to ask something.
Now, this will help the users to get the most relevant answer to a question and this would even improve the engagement in the community. The answer with the highest vote will appear just after the question.
Any further questions, I'm ready to answer. -
i don't really get it. could you please elaborate?
-
Upvote means giving a thumbs-up on replies which are really good or relevant. Downvote is the opposite.
In most forums, there two buttons below every posts: Upvote [ðŸ‘] and Downvote [👎] buttons. The ones with more Upvotes appears at the top and the nes with less Upvotes and more Downvotes appears at the bottom. Registered users votes the posts on the basis of relevance or helpful. -
We already have thread pinning. It's pretty similar.
-
Bruh, I am not talking about threads. I am talking about the posts in the threads. Now, you can't pin the posts, can you?
-
alright, interesting. but what if someone's having a conversation and all their posts get jumbled up because of it? what if someone abuses the power and an offensive post is moved from it's previous spot and up to the top, which would probably confuse us, the mods, when we try to mark it?
-
Okay, I would agree with this if it was only for Q&A threads like you stated. But I would be rather annoyed if I was trying to have a conversation and posts were being mixed around due to the up and down voting.

'._.
hahahahahahaha you did mention it was for Q&A gtg -
I personally think being able to lock our own threads would be neat. Like, the mods could lock every thread. However, the users can only lock the threads they make. This is just a suggestion. It would allow users to be independent and not over use the power.

Bunnie: Your point holds grounds. As I have already stated, "Q&A" threads and had already defined it, I think I needn't explain much.
On the page where you can start a thread, let there be an option which the owner of the thread can use. The option, let's just say, has: Q&A thread, Discussion thread, etc. When the owner selects the "Q&A thread", the thread gets adjusted and all the post on that thread shows the upvote and downvote buttons, but if the owner selects any other option, the buttons don't show up. Now, you might ask something negative. I have a solution for that too. When a thread is created, a mod gets full control over it. The mod can now change the category or option ("qna thread" and etc.).
And on what you say, "abuses the power", well we will have to take that much of risk. And I think GTQ Guy and you the mods or other creative geniuses would find some solution out.
And for the offensive button... If the upvote and down vote buttons appears just above the offensive button, then the problem would be solved, right? -
Wolfy: Yeah, I'd be annoyed too.
HP: ... -
we can't do anything about that, HP. i mean, if enough users want to be able to lock their own threads, maaaaaybe we could discuss it among ourselves and if we all agree on it, then we could bring it up with gtq guy. but it's ultimately gtq guy's decision if he wants to implement that. other than that, sorry about your luck
-
and i can see what you're trying to say, jeeshan. but if people do choose to abuse that privilege, it really would be a hassle on the mods when we try to mark offensive posts.
also, i don't know why you can just do ctrl+f and type in a keyword you need to find the answer you need on a computer, or do a bit of skimming and skamming if you're on mobile. or, well, just have the person who's answering the questions bold the question and post the answer afterwards so it's easy to find, like dark did in the q&a thread in this forum.
it also just sounds like a really complicated process and hard to code for gtq guy, also i don't really see the point, sorry. js. it's not something we really need, compared to the other problems we still have to talk to gtq guy about. no hard feelings -
I would be able to lock my own threads because mine tend to get spammed a lot. And it saves a job for the moderators as well, because not all of them are on at the same time, and some people, (eg. Me) are very impatient and want them locked instantly, so then there is no "moderator-harassment".

My question is what's the point of upvoting or downvoting a Q&A? Why move posts around? It's pretty easy to just quote an answer or tell someone to check a certain page.
This thread is locked, therefore no new posts can be made.
