Thread Topic: Innocent people's account are being deleted
-
Observation NewbieThe spammer is using hacked accounts to spam. The accounts belong to users who have done nothing wrong.
Including Janeaustenfan and Denim1 and many others -

Observation NewbieHow about you reply to this GTQ guy? I don't like the current system for deleting spam that results in accounts being deleted, could you change it so that only you can delete accounts?
-
That was the original system. It also had faults. No system is perfect. The only thing I can suggest is changing your password frequently and not giving it out to other users. Don't even make it easy to guess.
-
Observation NewbieI'm just not comfortable with the current system, I am a lot more comfortable with a system where the account is suspended and can't post for a long while. You can warn about setting stronger passwords but there are always people who don't know they have to do that.
It should be that only very new accounts can be deleted as older accounts aren't going to spam. I've seen at least 2 hacked experienced accounts deleted and it's not fair on their owners . -
Accounts won't delete if they've had enough non-deleted posts in recent months. It's set up really to target accounts that don't post normally and are just causing trouble. Most regular forum users would be completely exempt from this, and instead would have their posting disabled for periods of time.
-
GTQ Guy, it's great to see you active. If I may, I've responded to you in the mod forum on the matter of new mods, and would really appreciate if you would review that. Furthermore, if you aren't too busy, there were a few points in my most recent thread there that you haven't addressed, and I would love to hear from you on those subjects. Thank you very much.
-
Observation NewbieBut there is something wrong with the system then, because older accounts that have posted normally but been inactive for a while have been deleted. This isn't really fair, can't you change it to just effecting newbie and novice status?
-
Observation if an older account gets hacked, say for example a user from 2009 who never comes on. The hacker starts spamming. The account should be deleted since no one will come on it, plus anyone can make a new account. It take about a month to get to Advanced status if you really try.
-
Gtg Guy, delete Lancashire God. He is spamming his thread with 'no' and it's annoying as sht.
-
Observation NewbieMy point is that older accounts that have been inactive for a while shouldn't be affected by the system or the post limit system.
Even if they are hacked, they will lose all their post history if their account is deleted. You also don't know they won't come back - the hacker might not have even changed the passwords. -
Slayerbrine NoviceDear reader,
I agree with observasion but how about this. Why don't you delete accounts that haven't been on for a certain period of time?If the person says they're leaving and they follow through with it,couldn't you just delete the account? This would make it harder for hackers to hack into accounts considering you don't need the account anymore. Also I'd love for GTQ Guy to look on some mods recent post while he is on.
Really Awesome User,

Observation I've been on for a long time, and have been active since I've joined. But guess what? I am troll who constantly talks s--- about people. If I was banned I would be fine with it. You make me feel like I'm not doing anything wrong.
-
i agree with observation, someone has been using my account to spam, luckly it wasnt deleted but it could have been.
