Thread Topic: I have a question for fellow moderators.
-
If a long and stupid fight breaks out in a thread that wasn't intended for a long and stupid fight, should we do anything about it?
-
I don't know. .3. I guess it could, in some sense of the word, qualify as spam.. I guess we are kind of meant to try and break that s--- up.
-
I don't really want to delete all of the posts though, because that would be one hell of a wait time.
-
We could always make dumb posts- wait, no, don't do what Dark did.
We should let it play out. Honestly, I've noticed that posting in a thread like that makes it worse if someone of higher status posts asking for people to stop. -
Look at both parties, mark offensive the posts that you feel contain excessive cussing, racism, sexism etc
Only do this once the fight is over and things have gone quiet
Then you have done your job
The other fellow moderators will then delete the posts greyed outModerator -
Sometimes, they're not offensive at all, just dumb and pointless.
-
Yeah, I know. There are still a few problems with the moderation system. I don't really know how to deal with it. I think it should definitely wait until someone says something. I don't think it's our job to stalk around and show up in an argument where no one seems to feel moderation is necessary.
-
If we wait, though, it could turn into something big. I don't want to say we should jump in, but I don't want to say we should wait..
-
I personally want to stop it whenever I see it, but it doesn't seem like something that requires actual moderation unless it's actually spam or trolling or something. If I marked every post I didn't like, we'd have only communist posts.
-
I've been wondering about this too. So far I've only posted offensive on spam and troll posts. I don't like to get involved in people's personal problems unless they're having a negative effect on the site. ._.
-
Don't delete them.
Try to intervene and calm the fighting.
If that fails, maybe mark one or two to let the people know to stop it.
The only time deleting immediately is acceptable is if it's a one sided attack (such as just insulting someone and they're not fighting back), if the post gives personal information, or if the person who made it asks for it to be deleted. -
Another question, what if someone is making another person uncomfortable, and has been asked to leave repeatedly, but won't leave?
-
It sounds like harassment to me.
-
Sure does.
-
That makes five of us who agree, then.
You, Shido, Maru, Selena, and me.
