Thread Topic: IPs, and what can be done with them.

An IP is short for IP address whoch is short for internet protocol address.
We all have one. They are important. Quick explanation on why.
You have alice and bob. Alice wants to talk to bob.
She sends a string of 1s and 0s to her wireless modem or a wired connection, these are then sent to the ip of the website she is trying to access or computer she is connecting to. When it reaches there the 1s and 0s are sent to the server and processed, the server bob then using the same processs (but in reverse) sends 1s and 0s back to your ip.
Wothput an ip, you would get no response.
As such, any webpage you view knows your ip.
Some security conscious people use something called a proxy.
This means, Alice sends her stream of 1s and 0s to Chads computer (chad is a proxy), then chad sends the 1s and 0s to bob, and any response from bob chad sends to alice. Making the ip shown to the website to appear to be from chad and not alice.
IP ADDRESSES AND LEGALITY
Knowing someones ip is 100% LEGAL. Sharing someones ip is 100% LEGAL. Using an online lookup tool to find someones country using their ip is 100% LEGAL.
What is illegal? Doing a ddos attack on their network, crashing their internet. 100% ILLEGAL.
Using software to connect to an old unprotected computer and accessing files, 100% ILLEGAL.
PRIVACY AND WHAT IS LEGAL/NOT COMPLETELY UNETHICAL
If you put something on the internet in a public place, it is on the internet in a public place. Stuff is hard to get off the net. As a whole, if you don't want someone knowing something don't put it on the net.
Be aware a ton more info goes out then you think. Some smartphones automatically tag images gps coordinates, allowing them to fond your exact location give or take 20 yards.
Pictures can greatly narrow down locations, google maps males sure of that.
If you. put something 1 place on the public internet, it is public information. Open game for anyone who wants it.
Someones email, computer files, or other private communications is not public and anyone accessing it is invading your privacy.
ONE FINAL THING, LEGAL HACKING
Google it, research laws on it if you are concerned. Be aware the US has hypocrite judges who don't understand the law. -
Glad to know Google maps males.
