You know, now that I think about it, this is genuinely offensive. I apologize, Ive been pretty angry today, and joking about suicide was not a good way to get it out at all. I'm sorry.

When Mark posted this empty threat, he was also in the midst of trying to get everyone banned, swearing and insulting everyone online, and trying to throw blame on others guilt free.
This threat was hollow. A last ditch effort to try and make us all afraid so we'd bend to his will. When he made this threat, we were presented with three options.
-Ignore it
-Make it a joke
-Take it seriously
We've tried ignoring it. Sounds good in text. But didn't work in practice.
Taking it seriously would give him the power he was looking for. What would have been our options then? Beg him to not? Doesn't work. He doesn't listen. Give in to his demands? Congratulations, you just shut down a public forum on the whim of a child.
This leaves us with one alternative; make it a joke. We aren't going to give in to him and unlike ignoring him, he knows he holds no power over us. If Mark were truly suicidal to the point that not closing down a public forum because he doesn't like it would put him over the edge, then as cold as it sounds, it would have been bound to happen eventually. We don't know his real name and therefor cannot alert people in his area to give him the help he would need. He won't listen when you try and talk to him yourself. He comes on here to complain, spam and troll and then make suicide threats when he doesn't get his way.
Hate me all you want for not taking it seriously, but if you're going to demonize someone for making a joke out of suicide, let it be the person who's trying to use it to get their way. -

Justify it all you want James. It is still wrong. So what if he's doing it to get attention. Ignore him and eventually he'll stop. You don't go making a joke out of something that is suppose to be taken seriously. No matter who the person is. Making it a joke doesn't fix anything. Because one day he will take you serious and kill himself. You are suppose to be a reasonable person, smart and you were chosen to be a moderator of this place. Someone who was suppose to help the users..Not make things into a joke. You could've marked it offensive...not turned it into a laughing matter. Then are many other things to do besides make fun of it.

It's always important to believe and encourage someone's dreams. If one of those dreams is to commit suicide, then why put someone down and tell them "no, you can't do that". It's degrading and hurtful, and quite frankly I'm ashamed of all of you who denounce this young, ambitious child's hopes and dreams. Shame on you.

Well Nuna, if you're going to hate someone for it, then hate me for it. I started the discussion.
I'm not here to hold hands or be nice to everyone. I'm not here to talk things out with everyone who takes something that is serious and makes it a joke.
I am a user who is known for being honest and giving people the same sympathy and consideration that they give back out. That is first and foremost who I am.
After that, I am a moderator. I am not a moderator to delete everything that people disagree with. I am not a moderator to tell people what they can and cannot take seriously. I am a moderator to delete hate speech, spam, and keep people following the rules.
1. Do not harass, insult, or attempt to embarrass another person.
2. Do not reveal private information about another person.
3. Do not share contact information such as your e-mail address.
4. Do not post any spam.
5. Do not post pictures that are gory, sexual or offensive.
6. Do not post links to sites that are gory, sexual, or offensive.
7. Do not post links to sites that have viruses.
8. No racism or hate speech.
9. No cybersex.
none of these were broken. In fact the closest thing to a rule I can see taking effect here is "Do not harass or insult other people. Treat others how you'd like to be treated."
And in that regard I think I did well. If I were making empty threats to try and give myself power, I would expect each and every one of you to stop taking a thing I said seriously and give me the hardest reality check you could. -

We are a social species. There is always the possibility that we have, or will, evolve to not cull our weak, but keep them alive- strengthen them, and grow them into a strong member of the community. -
