hanxbmx NewbieSo this guy from this guy that I went to camp with said he loves me over text. We r not dating and I don't like him but he really likes me. I don't know if he is serious or if he isnt
The convo was
"hey"
"hi"
"I love YOU"
How should I respond to that -
Uh, he doesn't sound very serious to me, honestly. Ask him why he says that.

Well, this was over text. It's unreliable. Unless anything happened in person to make you think he might like you, he probably didn't mean it seriously. Probably loves you like a friend, seeing as he just burst into saying that first thing in the conversation.

He said he was serious? Well, from an insider looking in with scarce details, he doesn't seem that serious at all.
Firstly, I don't think not dating has anything to do with it. If you've known each other for a considerable amount of time, and have developed a meaningful relationship, you don't need to date to realise sincere love is there.
Secondly, he told you over a text. As far as I see it, if you truly love someone you wouldn't be expressing it over the phone - let alone a text!
It's meaningless and open to all sorts of misinterpretation. Then again, he was probably quite trepidatious to say it in your presence face to face - that's also a factor.
Also, he could be confusing love and just likeness for. Or love and lust. Or just not expressing it accurately or definitively. My advice - consider how long you've known each other and the magnitude of the feelings that have developed, and also his personality. Many people handle and express things in different ways. If it's an absolute resounding no, tell him exactly how you feel decline as politely as possible.

well, if you think he is serious and you don't like him in that way, you can just laugh intext... or smile... but don't say i love you unless you mean it... And don't say you don't love him unless you sence he is going to ask you out or something... there is no reson in breaking his heart with you are not sure he is serious...
