Accept them for who they are.

If you're not into him anymore, don't pursue him. If you can deal with it, continue trying to hit that.

Try to just be friends. If you decide you want to date them later, you'll be connected. Use male pronouns, it'll probably help keep that door open. But accept that he will probably never want to date you. It is a possibility, after all.
