You need to be able to store vast amounts of data about pretty much everything from the period that the character enters to the time he leaves.
Use nodes to represent where everyone went and what they did. Make the nodes fairly broad yet make it so using pathfinding they can be made highly accurate. Record player as well.
To remove the fact that the player in past would recignuze future self when you travel back in time you take in a new body (of a person with a complex life)
Player will treat you like a random bystander (if player is killing randoms he'll attack you, if running to a target he'll run past you). As soon as his path is heavily interrupted he'll become an ai (with some modifiers applied from how you act) -
paradoxes would be bypassed by the parallel universe theory.
