Thread Topic: Just a friendly reminder

Tracing/eyeballing/imitating someone else's artwork for the purpose of learning is a great teaching tool and highly encouraged.
Tracing/eyeballing/imitating someone else's artwork for the purpose of self promotion or profit is disgusting and you should be ashamed.
There is a huge difference, please understand that and be respectful. -
A lot my drawings look similar to others I've seen without knowing >.> like they happen to look alike.Gah...its annoying.I draw something and turns out theres something similar to it.__.

Remember to choose wisely, though. It's easy to follow an artist and learn their errors.

What about fanart?
-
@Jade, that's not a fault on you as long as you realize it and address it.
and listen to Selena everyone!
@AP irrelevant. Fanart is often done in praise of the original work and there is no qualms about it, however selling fanart is the controversy.
But that's an entirely different story, what I'm talking about in this thread is this
redrawing like that is okay for your own purposes, but selling it or claiming it's all originally done by you is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. -
Further elaboration on what I said...
I frequently find people on dA copying/heavily referencing this artist's older work. Not only is it unprofessional, but the art also has a decent amount of anatomical errors (the biggest one being the fact that her characters have three toes and no dewclaw). Of course, these can be related to the fact that she has more of a loose anime cartoon style, which brings us back to copying being unprofessional.
Seriously guys, don't hide in someone's shadow. Make your own name. -
