This was originally posted in Literature, because I did not know where it belonged. But carri says it probably should go here, so here it is:
Dawn looked around quietly, her eyes sparked with interest. The room she found herself in was large and grand, and she could feel her brothers delight. Dusk barely contained an excited yelp from behind her. She took note that Monuka was not reacting. His guilt ate at her.
“We shouldn't be here.†he whimpered quietly behind them. “Let's go back to the city. We're gonna get caught.†He glanced frantically around, as if worried that a terrifying demon lord would jump out of nowhere and devour him. His fright filled her, and Dusk trembled as well. He reached over with a shaking hand and pinched the nervous boy. -
“Knock it off. Your making me feel guilty.†he growled. Dawn narrowed her eyes. They had finally figured out that morning what type of demon Monuka was. An emotion demon. That meant he could influence, and to some extent, control peoples emotions. It didn't help that every feeling he had was shared with whatever company he kept. Because he felt nervous and scared, so did she and her brother. She stepped further into the room.
She raked her gaze over the interior, pleasantly surprised. There was a large bed with silk covers and elegant sheets and pretty carvings in the wood. Light artwork covered the walls, and she could catch the glint of a few gems on a table nearby. The offering from that last village... the one suffering from drought. There were many things here that they could take.. the total value of the contents of just this one room would make all of them rich for the rest of their lives.
“About time something starts going our way, right boys?†she smiled back at them. Dusk grinned and stalked off to look the room over, and even Monuka seemed to perk up. He was starting to realize that this guy had it way too easy. Stealing from him would be like Robbin Hood.. except that they would be the only ones to benefit. They all spread out to look over the whole room, Dusk and Dawn examining a big painting on the wall while Monuka looked at the other half of the room.
“How much do you think it's worth?†Dusk asked. Dawn shrugged. “A lot?†They laughed. It came from a demon lord's castle; it had to be worth something. The exact value meant nothing. They began to lift it off the wall, when Monuka shrieked behind them. They both snapped around immediately. The younger demon fell away from the large bed and landed on the floor close by. -
“What?†Dawn called to him, walking closer. He shushed her, and motioned to the bed. “There's a person there.†he whispered urgently. He crawled closer and peeked up on to it, then turned back. “Two people.†he corrected. Dusk turned back around, blushing. “Man, tell me we did not just walk in in the middle of an adult event.†he growled. Dawn shook her head.
“Don't be stupid. They just passed out here. These must be the two humans we heard about. The ones who live here now: Erutis the knight, and Chris the cleric. Anyway, as I said, their only human. No problem.†she explained. Still, she didn't want to have to deal with any disruptions. Monuka looked even more nervous now. “But what if we wake them?†he stuttered, glancing at the two. Were they even supposed to be asleep in here? Dusk rolled his eyes. “That's easy- we kill them.†he smiled cruelly. “If they get in our way, they have to die.†he mocked. Dawn made no attempt to dissuade his violent nature, and made it perfectly clear that she agreed.
“But.. but.. if we.. but they..†Monuka stuttered helplessly. Dawn could feel a twinge of sadness creeping up in her. “You two wouldn't actually kill them, would you?†the young demon asked, his voice rising to a wail. The girl called Erutis grumbled a bit in her sleep. Dusk didn't notice. “Of course we would.†he replied harshly. “If we got in their way, they would kill us. Why should we be any more merciful?†he reasoned. “But we can't kill them!†Monuka shrieked, sobbing. The knight and the cleric sat upright in the bed, looking around with a dazed look in their eyes. Monuka quieted himself, sniffling. He stared at the two. They stared back. -
“Who are you?†the knight Erutis demanded, struggling to her feet. The cleric boy called Chris got to his feet next to her, glaring at the intruders. Dusk smirked. He pulled one of his throwing needles out and aimed for it to slice into the cleric's forehead. The boy stared at him, and Dawn turned away. Monuka got up and glared at Dusk. “If you kill them, I'll make you both sleep, and leave you here for the demon lord to kill you.†he threatened. Dusk's eyes widened, and Dawn stared at him. The two humans seemed very confused. For some reason, the girl called Erutis suddenly started laughing.
Ignoring the girl who seemed to be going in to hysterics, Dawn stepped closer to Monuka. “You promised your loyalty to us, remember?†she hissed. The younger demon gulped, but stood his ground. “I swear, I will.†he said. “Wait, wait.†Dusk interrupted. “If you have the ability to make people sleep, and you really don't want us to kill these clowns, why don't you just make them sleep?†he asked reasonably. The three demons paused for a moment. “Oh yeah.†he finally replied. He focused his feelings of calmness into the humans, who now stared at him, and they both began to drift off. He made them numb and calm, until they fell over and slept again, this time on the floor. he sighed with relief.
Dusk stared at the humans asleep on the floor for a moment. Finally he turned to Monuka. “Some loyalty you've got going there! Make us sleep, then leave us to the demon lord? How could you even say that?†he yelled. “Um, no.. I never would have actually done that.. I couldn't..†Monuka defended himself. Dawn smiled. “Lay off, Dusk. Let's just get what we can and get out of here.†-
She walked back over to the picture she and Dusk had been looking at. “Come on, let's get this done.†she smiled reassuringly. Dusk took another moment to glare at Monuka, but strode back over to continue the study of the picture. Monuka let himself breathe again once Dusk was a safe distance away. He started to go back to the bed, but he stopped next to the sleeping humans. He crouched down next to them and waved his hand before their eyes.
“Huh. So it actually works!†he said quietly. He got up and walked past them, looking around. Maybe if he found something really nice, Dusk would forgive his outburst. He looked the bed over, stroking the silk covers. It was pretty, even if it was just a bed.
“Hey!†he called back to his companions. “Do you think it would be worth taking these covers?†He fidgeted with his fingers until Dusk and Dawn appeared behind him. They examined the soft sheets, muttering little notes to themselves. “Probably.†Dawn replied. “Take care of it, okay?†she began to turn back, but stopped very suddenly. “Oh, great, and our troubles continue!†she hissed under her breath. Monuka and Dusk turned to look into the doorway where she glared, and saw a young boy standing there, staring at them. He had bright eyes and blond hair, and was shrouded in an expensive looking fabric. He watched them with curiosity in his eyes.
Dawn stepped toward the boy threateningly. “What do you want?†she growled. The boy continued to stare at her. It took them all a moment to notice the faint scent of demon on him. Dawn stepped back again, wondering how to react. He just stood there, watching. Then he smiled. He took a step closer to them, smiling with a friendly gleam in his eyes. -
“Are you here to play with me?†he asked, his voice childish. Dawn withdrew. Was the boy crazy? Demented? Maybe that's why he hadn't made a move to stop them from pillaging the room. “Who are you?†Dusk countered, avoiding the boy's question. The demon boy stepped closer. “I'm Raenef! This is my room.†he declared, spreading his hands out to gesture toward the whole room. Dawn stepped further back, so that Monuka thought she might trip over the sleeping humans. “Raenef? You're the demon lord?†she exclaimed, becoming a bit fearful. “Yep, that's me!†he said proudly. Dawn stepped back further. And tripped. The humans awoke very suddenly as she toppled over on them.
The cleric pushed her off and stood up, fuming. He looked like he was going to yell, but his eyes turned to the boy who claimed to be the demon lord. “Raenef!†he greeted him, jabbing his heel into the knight's arm. She stood up abruptly and stared nervously at him. “Where's Eclipse?†she asked frantically, ignoring the thieves. Raenef smiled. “He went to another meeting. I was lonely and I was looking for you two, but I couldn't find you.†he responded. The humans released a deep breath of relief. Dawn had been right. They weren't supposed to be sleeping in here. The humans turned their attention to her and her companions. “And what do you think your doing here?†they demanded. They took on the role of guards, apparently.
“Whatever we feel like.†Dusk spat, defiant. Monuka cowered behind him. “Their here to play with me!†Raenef volunteered them. Dawn's brother glared at him. “We never agreed to that!†he protested. Raenef looked sad. “So you won't play with me?†his eyes got wide and sad, and he made it very difficult to look directly at him without feeling guilty. Teardrops formed at the corners of his eyes. Dawn panicked. “No! Don't do that! We'll play with you, kid. Okay?†Dusk glared at her. She ignored, relieved that Raenef had stopped with the puppy dog eyes routine. He smiled again. “Yay!†-
Sounds good so far! :D

Yay!
-
Dawn sighed with relief. “Okay, what shall we play?†she asked tiredly. The boy thought for a moment, then bounced excitedly. “Let's play hide-and-seek!†he said happily. Dusk smiled. Hide and seek. So they were meant not to be found? Perfect. “Sure. We'll play.†he said, grinning. Erutis and Chris stared. “But their stealing stuff out of your room! Their thieves! Why would you want to play with them?†they echoed each other. “But you both tried to kill me at some point.†Raenef pointed out, at which point Dawn could not help but to laugh.
The knight and the cleric muttered to themselves, but kept quiet. Raenef led the way out into a long hallway and to the outside of the castle. “We'll play out here.†he decided. “Since I'm the one who wanted to play, I'll be it first!†he offered. He whirled around, resting his head against a pillar. “I count to one hundred. Ready? One.. two.. three.. four..†Erutis and Chris turned and ran away. The thieves waited until they were out of sight, which took until Raenef had reached twenty one. They began to sprint in the opposite direction, toward the way they had come from, Dawn in the lead.
“Come on, faster you two. He'll be just about to one hundred by now.†she called back to them. They tried to speed up, but the mountainous terrain was not good for running. As they neared the end of the land of the demon lord, their spirits began to rise. “We're almost there!†she reported. But the moment she said so, she heard a twig crunch in front of her. She stopped as best as she could, skidding a bit to keep from crashing into Raenef, who had appeared in front of them. He smiled happily. Dusk and Monuka slammed into Dawn as she tried to steady herself, and they all fell in a heap at his feet.
“I found you!†he laughed. Dawn stared at him. Was it even possible for him to be so fast? It couldn't be. He stared at them cheerfully, and didn't seem to notice the fact that they were all on the ground. “That's okay, we're fine. thanks for asking!†Dusk spat, struggling up. Raenef looked over them again, only just seeming to see them there.
