How Death Note Jumped the Shark
Death Note is my favorite anime, and it always will be. It was about a young scholar, by the name of Light Yagami. He was the best in his class, and had a full scholarship to his college. One day, Light stumbles upon a book. It was calledthe Death Note. It said that any name written in the book would die. You could write the time and cause of the death, and it would happen. The Death Note belonged to a Shinigami (A God of Death) by the name of Ryuk. When Light picked the Death Note up, Ryuk became his companion. Light was the only one able to see Ryuk. Light became curious with the Death Note, so he started to write down names of criminals in it. To his surprise, they all died. Over time, Light becomes crazed with power. He starts to kill tons of criminals, going by the alibi Kira, and no one suspects a thing. But theres only 1 problem.Lights dad is in the police force, and hes the head of the investigation to catch Kira.
The earlier episodes of Death Note, before it jumped the shark were great. Lights dads investigation was going nowhere, but they had some help. An anonymous detective that went by the name of L had helped his dad solve multiple cases in the past. He seemed to have extra knowledge about the cases that no one else had. In Death Note, he helped Lights dad solve the case. It gave the episodes tons of suspense, because everyone wanted to see Ls face. It seemed like they would show it a few times, and when they finally did, the ratings and number of viewers watching the anime had sky-rocketed. He brought a whole other element of suspense and excitement to the anime.
The whole anime jumped the shark when my favorite character, L died. He was an extremely good detective, with spiky black hair and dark circles around his eyes. He crouched when thinking, because it increased with thinking by 40%. He was extremely OCD. For example, he would only put 3 ice cubes in his tea, or he would eat his cake with 5 strawberries every time. L was a bit strange, but he was still my favorite character. He died a very abrupt death. Kira tricked Rem (another Shinigami) to kill him in order to save the keeper of her Death Note from being killed by Kira. It was the worst part of the anime in my opinion. I screamed at my computer and cried when he fell down dead. Animes get me very emotional, and when L died, it wasnt a good moment.
The whole anime went downhill when L died. He was a favorite character among many viewers, and he had that extra something that made the anime great. After he died, the ratings started to drop dramatically. Although Kira became more dramatic and reckless in the plot, it still couldnt make up for the fact that my favorite character was gone. When L died, I screamed at my computer, and cried for a good 15 minutes. I get very emotional when I watch animes, and this wasnt a good moment. I still continued to watch the anime, and I even finished it, but it always seemed to be missing something without L.
Many things/people in pop culture have jumped the shark. In my opinion, Ls death in the anime Death Note, was the worst one. Its never a good thing when something jumps the shark, especially animes. Ls death dragged the whole anime downhill. I hope that no animes I watch in the future would jump the shark! -
NEVERMIND!!!!!
