You left off facing off that king you only remember as a boy....

  1. "You. You were the boy who helped your father beat my mother. Your first catch." I began with disgust. "You never thought to search the trees above now did you? I had to watch it all helpless. Well, too bad I'm not so helpless now." His eyes widened realizing where he recognized me from, but I allowed him no time to recover. I grabbed the man nearest to me, hearing him shriek as my claws ripped into his flesh. I blinded him and allowed him to stumble forward. My attention turned to the charging behemoth before me. He did not have his weapon as he did not wish me dead, but still dangerous I leaped from his path. I let out a terrible screech and dove into the men trying to avoid me. I tore and I ripped and I dodged. The anger within me built up until all I saw was red. Soon it was just me and him. His horse reared and pawed, waiting for permission to charge me down. "You understand I'm just going to capture you anyways right? So don't make this harder than it has too. Just come with me quietly, I will ignore the lives you've cost me." I gave a cruel laugh and darted between the trees. I heard his horse thunder behind me, but I wouldn't give him a straight path to gain momentum. I knew I couldn't hold out longer than he, I just hoped my screech was heard. I circled back to wear he first took off after me and slowed as he cornered me again. He chuckled and told me to give in again. But I would not. As if on cue, Bo burst from the trees besides me. I caught hold of his mane and leaped up onto his back. A searing pain shot through my shoulder but I ignored it. I held on and allowed Bo to find a way from the forest, the king right behind us. We continued to gain momentum, exploding into the plains beyond. A horrible collision happened behind us and I turned to find tremendous battle erupt between the king and the three men who had cornered me days ago in the canyon. I did not stop though. Bo and I fought through all the exhaustion until we reached a line of hills I was sure we could hide among. We slowed, collapsing into the chest high grass. Heaving out and in all the air we could muster.
  2. Once we gained back at least a bit of our energy we waded through the grass until we found a small overhang in a hill. Here we could rest safely. I set up a small fire and watched as Bo collapsed, ready to sleep. My hand touched my stomach when it growled, I realized I needed both food and water. Now. I removed my claws and strapped them to my belt. Just in case. I looked at Bo and saw that my claws had ripped up some of his mane and neck when we were riding. I instantly felt bad. I should have seen that coming. I definitely need water now. I took my bow and waded out into the grass. I made as little movement and noise as possible. I breathed in and out, letting the land around me overwhelm my senses. I saw all, smelled all, and heard all. To my right I could hear a rabbit scuffling, behind me a coyote waiting for me to scare out prey into the open. The coyote has no meat for me, and the rabbit would run off before I'd get a shot. Within moments I knew I'd have difficulty shooting anything when I was so low in the grasses. I looked around searching for a higher point and found on quickly. I took up my position on the small hill and lied down. My bow was aimed and ready for the kill. I waited for a good while before something popped up. In the distance a group of ducks appeared milling around. I needed only one. My arrow proved true and killed the duck in one shot. I instantly sprinted towards it so no other predator could reach it before me. I slung it over my shoulder and looked for some clean water source. I soon found a steady stream and gathered a lot of it in a water bottle. I carefully made my way back to Bo, who was sound asleep. I made a small fire and plucked the duck. I drank steadily throughout to rehydrate myself. While I was cooking my thoughts turned to my father. I didn't know much about him, but I knew he was a good man. He helped my mother and grandfather escape a terrible fate to a horrid king. After that I knew my mother visited him often for she had fallen in love with him. When she learned that she was pregnant he wouldn't allow her to visit anymore because it was a risk to do so and he didn't want his child in any danger. I often wish I knew more of him. My mother would sing me a song that they would sing together, it was all I had of him. When my duck was good and finished I ate it all, which I don't normally do. I always try to save some but that didn't work this time. I turned to Bo and investigated his wounds. They were not severe but I still felt bad. I reached into my one of my packs and brought out a plant I always kept around just in case. I chewed it and mixed it with water. Then I quickly applied it to Bo's neck, for I knew it would sting. I saw his ears pin back and his eye on me, but did nothing. I patted his chest and apologized. He just snorted as if saying 'I knew you couldn't live without me.' and fell asleep again. I checked the area for any threats, and once satisfied, I returned to the little nest I had made next to Bo. It took a while, but I finally succumbed to slumber.
  3. (HUNTER'S POV) We stood before King William, the three of us. We had our heads hanging in shame. We managed to find her, but unfortunately, we had to fight that stupid king before we could get another shot at finding her. After that I couldn't pick up her trail. We had to return without her. The queen stood looking into space the whole time, her eyes sad. When we had finished explaining our journey, she left without a word. The king sighed and put his head in his hand. He rose and looked out the vast window behind his thrown. It showed the entire kingdom, you could often see him standing there observing the activities. He was not an extraordinarily old man, but his hair was grey from stress. He created this place for his queen, and it rose to glory and goodness that no other kingdom has yet seen. For what reason the queen has for searching the face of every woman who enters our gates, I do not know. But this reason seems to be a lot of the king's reason too. However, we hadn't safely brought back this one... she lived up to her nickname, The Whisper. She bested me, which is no small feat, and one I'm unhappy about. The other two were ashamed in their own ways, but I didn't bother ask. I hadn't even bothered to learn their names. For what reason would we have a need to? King William turned to us and dismissed us, he told us we did our best and there is no more that can be done. We each left the throne room rather sluggishly. This was my first failure, and it must be theirs too because of the look on their faces. I walked home to try and sleep. But it would not come. My mind was too enticed by those green eyes of hers.
  4. (THE KING'S POV) I was so close to having her! And then those three insolent men had ruined my chances. I was in my dining room throwing plates and goblets. Bashing chairs and tables. I was angrryy. When I realized how I recognized her I had to have her even more. Everything about her was intoxicating! Her green eyes, long flowing golden hair, freckled face, fierce expression, strong attitude, and curves. She was totally exotic and no one but me deserves her. She is only worth a king. And here I am! I need a queen anyways. One thing I never liked my father for, he ruled on his own without a queen. I long for one. I could care less about how a man treats his woman, but I don't plan to continue as my father did. I want to bathe her in luxury, spoil her rotten. If she's worth my attention and will bear me a child, she should have the world, and I'd give it to her. I will find out who those men were and I will torture them to death. But only after I have that siren on my arm, only then will I draw my weapon. Then I will go forward to conquer everything that lies in my path.
  5. (MY POV) I rose from my sleep early in the morning. I had an unusually restless sleep and felt drowsy. But I knew I needed to continue. To continue moving was how I remained elusive. Bo had already risen and was grazing. I put everything onto his strap and from his wet muzzle I knew he had found the stream. I walked to the stream and he was right behind me, grazing as we walked. In the stream I noticed I flicker of silver. Breakfast! I shot a couple small fish and returned to the campfire. It was still smoldering and I cooked the fish. After this I put out the fire and mounted Bo. He went whatever way pleased him and I ate everything I could from the fish. Protein is protein. We walked under an apple tree and I snatched one and cherished the sweet treat I had chanced upon. We rode a good while when my eyes began to droop. *** I woke and found the sun setting. I rose to look around. The forest around me was tall and held an eerie mist about it. We found I nice little hiding spot and set up camp. The fire was hard to light because of the damp wood, but I pulled it off eventually. I then set out for a source of food. I found small berries here and there, and I feasted on them while I searched for prey. After a while I had an unsettling sense. My sense was right. I came to a cliff leading down into an all too familiar canyon. My stomach flipped and I froze. I then realized that the path a few trees away was not of animal origin. I should have known that! Crap!
  6. I ducked behind a tree trunk when I heard approaching footprints. I stopped breathing and I could have sworn that even Bo so far away could hear my pounding heartbeat. I could barely see a woman in elegant clothing emerge from the mist. I could make out her sad green eyes, and greying golden hair. She seemed upset, and oddly familiar. A man with grey hair came up behind her, winded. He must have been trying to catch up to her. His clothing was equally as expensive and impressive. Each wore a gold crown upon their heads. 'So these are the king and queen of the nearby kingdom.' I couldn't make out what they were saying, for they were talking in hushed tones. The queen then broke down into sobs into the kings arms. He rocked her back and forth, comforting her. I was baffled, I hadn't seen a man treat a woman so kindly. I watched with fascination as he wiped away her tears and helped her calm herself in such a gentle way. She put her hand on his face and kissed his nose. It was cute. I allowed myself a small smile, not something that comes often when not with Bo. The turned and continued on the path and I hid again. But as they passed, I heard the queen begin to hum. But that song... I knew it.... I suddenly couldn't breathe, that was the song my mother sang to me, the one she'd sing with my father. The beautiful song began to fade with distance, but I stumble out into the path. "M-m-mom?" I stuttered just loud enough for them to hear. The queen stopped in her tracks and slowly turned. When our eyes met, I knew. It was her. It was my mom. I fell to my knees with tears streaming from my face. Her eyes released a river of tears as well and she ran to me. She dropped down and took me in an embrace, and I returned it. We sobbed and sobbed. "You, your, your alive!" I sobbed. "And your free," she exclaimed in joy, "my little cub." I pulled back and traced the newer featured she had acquired from both age and abuse. She rose and helped me to my feet. Her hand reached for the king and he took it. He looked at me with tears in his eyes. "Hello Ashlyn, my daughter." He whispered. My mouth fell open as I studied the face of my father. He had many lines from both stress and laughter. His eyes were a deep blue that seemed to hold the wisdom of all the world. He was only a tad taller than me and my mother, and his smile was inviting. "We have searched for you for a long time, and I'm so happy to find you ourselves." He said. His hand touched my cheek, trembling the entire way. Tears continued to fall from my eyes, "You both have a lot to tell me." "And you." My mother responded. "Come Crystal, and Ashlyn, I am sure this would be more suited in a castle room. Now, Ashlyn, no matter what, at least spend two nights under our roof." I nodded, "But I need to get Bo. Uh, my horse. He's my only companion, and best friend." My mother smiled and gestured to the woods. I dropped my bow and took of my arrows, I'd run faster. I sprinted to Bo. His eyes filled with confusion when sensing my emotions. I told him what just happened as I packed all of my supplies. His ears pricked in excitement and he whinnied to the sky. I smiled and laughed. Once on his back I urged him to be quick, and quick he was. We reached my parents in no time, they both were surprised at both Bo's strength and personality. But they sure did like him, and they treated him kindly.
  7. We walked in silence to the kingdom. We each were just content at the moment to be a family. I couldn't believe my mother was alive, let alone a queen besides the kindest man in the world. To imagine a place ruled by them was a overwhelming sense of hope. We reached the gates and I tensed naturally. I couldn't relax, and I didn't really want to. When someone tried to take Bo away from me he tried to bite him and kick him in the chest. My mother then said that Bo could remain at my side. For this, I was immensely grateful. She also let me keep my weapons. Another reason to feel grateful. We strode through the kingdom and I watched wearily as every man around gathered to take in the sight. My hand was constantly at my side, placed on my claws. Bo didn't look too comfortable as well. When we finally came to the castle, a man sat beside a small shop outside the gates. I recognized him as the man that had spoken to me in the canyon. His eyes widened, jaw dropped, and face reddened. I suppressed a smile and continued to stride alongside my mother. On the castle steps sat a man polishing his sword. He looked up and the same expression that the other man grew into, he grew into as well. He was the warrior in the canyon. We continued up into a hall, we continued to climb stairway after stairway. A small boy ran up to my father on the top. "Hunter Ryan wishes a word with you your highness." He said. When his eyes found me he gasped, but my father dismissed him. Before two grande doors that we came to was the hunter I had seen, he was sitting in a chair with his head in his hands. When we passed he looked up with bags under his eyes. He looked at me with a blank expression, closed his eyes, and opened them again. Since i was still there he let his mouth open, but that was all I saw before we entered the room.
  8. The room before me was amazing. The room was lit by a wall of fire that encircled the room, only breaking at the doorway. On the far wall stood a great window that looked over the streets of the kingdom. The sun had set and the stars and moon glowed brilliantly. Before the window and fire stood two immense thrones. Each were molded from gold, intricate designs accented it's curves. Each were lined with rubies, the cushions a blood red. The floor reflected what was above it, making everything so much more beautiful. The ceiling stretched high above us, and besides the doors stood a lion and lioness, each with a crown. I grinned. This place was spectacular. My mother took a seat on her throne, and my father took me to his. I sat and sighed. This was the most comfortable thing I've ever sat in, no contest. "We have much to discuss Ash." My mother said taking my hand. I nodded. "However, tomorrow is when we will talk for the most part. For tonight, we plan to spoil you with a great feast, and a good night's rest. We do not have to talk more than you wish to. This must be overwhelming to you." My father said. I grinned. "This is where you rule huh?" I asked. The nodded, both smiling. "We will have Timmy bring you to a nearby washroom. He is that little boy you had seen earlier. There will be choices for you to wear and a place to fix yourself up if you wish." My mother told me. They then left the room. A moment afterwords Timmy came in and bowed. I didn't like that so I told him to please not do that again. He nodded in consent. I then followed him to that washroom that my mother had described. He left me there. I scrubbed all the dirt I could from my skin, I could hear Bo outside sigh in boredom. I smiled but continued to clean myself. When I figured I was as clean as I was going to get... I chose to wear....
  9. I stumbled out into the hallway. It was harder to walk in these things than it looked. Bo snorted in amusement. I pushed into his neck playfully, but that only resulted in more stumbling. Gripping his mane, he helped me follow the man in black eyeliner. While we walked/stumbled through the hallways my mind was entrapped within thoughts of...
  10. Well that's it for today! I know it took longer than usual to get it out... but I hope you like this one!
