How likely are you to win the lottery?
Aidan Tulloch from North Yorkshire is my first runner-up. His story was very subtle and full of interesting details even if it was rather short. But at nearly eight years, Aidan was the youngest writer in the pile. Hard to believe.
But the winner, for me, is Casey (KC) Costello with one of the most nightmarish stories of all. I love the shock of the mother turning round with her claw hammer and the fact that she can tell her daughter off for swearing even in the middle of her insanity. The return of the crow at the end is really effective, there's a neat twist and the whole of the last paragraph seems to me to be exactly how horror should be written. All in all, I doubt very much that I'll get any sleep tonight.
