Some of the answers are wrong.
#5: A semicolon must be in between two independent clauses.
No, you can't use a comma, however you CAN use a period and the keyword here is M U S T.
#6: Correct: She asked the teacher for an extension on the assignment; the teacher agreed.
Incorrect: When she asked for an extension on the assignment, the teacher agreed.
Because in the 'incorecct' statement "When she asked for an extension on the assignment" is introductory element, a comma could be placed to say the teacher agreed. It would be less choppy than the 'correct' statement. The correct one is choppy.
#9 This one is just plain wrong, man!
"Charlotte Bronte is one of history's outstanding authors famous for her critical essays and novels."
You would HAVE to have a comma after "authors". "famous for her critical essays and novels" is DEFINATELY a dependent clause that needs to be joined by a comma.

ical essays and novels." They're both dependent, choppy, yet correct.
