From your explanation, Aikido actually sounds perfect for you.

I don't claim to know a ton about martial arts (since most of what I know is from manga and Kung Fu movies), but Aikido is a self-defense martial art that does not rely on weight training or muscular strength, and is recommended for girls and boys with leaner and smaller frames.

Like Tai Chi, Aikido focuses on balance ("aiki" = unifying energy/spirit) and tactically using your opponent's strength against them, but Aikido is faster to learn and isn't as soft-styled.

I think this quiz was right on for you, and if you're still interested in martial arts, just give Aikido a try.

    • Aikido not only strengthens your physical balance, but also your mental one. As a practitioner of Kyokushin Karate, I honestly would say Aikido is a perfect companion. I must mention, however that Aikido is useful when combined with a more aggresive martial art because alone, like Tai Chi, it cannot protect you.

  • I'm surprised!

I would like to join Ninjutsu but I was on the fence so long but really I don't have the good reason why I should join it

But my goal is always about self-defense and Ninjutsu' technique doesn't appeared to be very effective in real situatuion either.

So i put Ninjutsu away. Kempo or Kenpo which I got 89% from the test and after watched some of the video I was pumped and tempted to learn it,the problem is Kenpo is even more mysterious than Ninjutsu on how to find the place to learn in my country!

Let alone finding a legit one!

    • Yea, I also got Kenpo. I want to be able to have agility, speed, and the strength to face an opponent and take them down in a ferocious battle that awes the crowd with both of our strength and tenacity.

  • Hi I really liked your test it helped a lot. I want your advice.

I started jiujitsu about 7 years ago. I want to continue that but I would like to learn more. I want to start ninjutsu, but at the moment I don't have acces for that. I got Kenpo from the test (79%), but I'm not really interested in that. Karate is the second one but I think that is too common for me. I want to learn something a little bit different from jiujitsu. Firstly I thought Kungfu would be good for me, but I had got only 36% of that at the test. MMA sounds interesting and it was just after Karate, but I don't know much about that.

I naturally have an extremly flexible body, but I'm not very fast, strong or sopfisticated. I have a hard time to memorize complex techniques. I want to develop these skills somehow.

  • If I could develop just 2 qualities to master level it would be the ability to see my opponents seem like they are moving in slow motion in a real fight, so therefor I would not freeze, go into a reptilian brain defensive mode, and get killed. (The toughest guy in my neighborhood growing up once took on 3 crazed bikers barehanded and knocked all 3 out in a flash and said later" They all seemed to be moving in slow motion. And despite some martial training, he was just a street fighter! He is Michael Ratner from Brighton Beach.

Second thing I would want is to "know" I can take my opponent out in one shot. I have 25+ years in the arts and I will tell you why: If you have nothing else but devastating power, you will be relaxed beyond what 99.9% of martial artists, and that means that even if you position yourself wrong, make mistakes and your opponent knows all about angles, distracting you and is even more confident than you....you will still win.

  • You must be psychic. I was leaning to Kenpo, the main reason initially was that it's a mile from my home. I have also done alot of online research, alot of it led to Ed Parker and I like what I've found. Another local Do-jo deals in Goju-Kia. I researched that a little and I didn't really like the animal noises that these guy's were doing, maybe a little to ancient for me. Looks like I'll be checking out the Kenpo Do-jo, they offering a free introductory lesson/visit. I did lie about my age though, I'm 54 yrs young :)

  • For almost 3 years I've been taught a mix of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and mainly Tang Soo Do, 12 through 15. I was going to continue with the teacher for as long as I could my mom stopped paying for the lessons. I moved out of state and in the town I'm in there hasn't been a school in the area that has impressed me. I want to get into martial arts once more but all of the schools in town are built for boosting confidence and not actually self defense. I want to learn an efficient, effective way to fight as well as build stamina and strength.

    • You sound very experienced! I haven't seen a mix of TKD, Hapkido and Tang Soo Do before. I don't think you really need to join a dojo for self defense though. Just do the Kihon and Katas that were taught to you. In case you really want a dojo to join, bark.com offers martial arts teachers tailored to your needs. Reply 10 years later lol.

  • whereitsat.. Please read the opening statements, the only right martial art is one you will enjoy continuing. If you enjoy your TKD classes then by all means attend them and progress. Another thing is it's so typical that many "potential students" drop out after obtaining a black belt. I use the word "Potential student" because any true martial artist will tell you a black belt is equal to a high school diploma... you know your basics. Stay with it and achieve a Degree or two. Also never be afriad to cross train. You may find that your instructor not only promotes it, but has a business or personal relationship with other schools, in Japanese based schools it is refered as Godo-geiko - An informal session with multiple related schools. All and all thank you for your comments on taking the test... and best wishes toward your training.

  • I have a 6 year elite background in gymnastics and also do professional ballet training, so im already mega flexible and quite strong. Furthermore im pretty good at tricks, eg. flips, walkovers and aerial things. I've chosen martial arts to combine with my ballet, dance and circus training to add more depth to my physicality while performing (in ballet and circus). I would love to come out of martial arts training strong (not bulky!! long and lean), and would love an art based on line, flow and grace- as i want the art to add to my dancing aesthetic not disturb it. I will not be soley training to compete but i dont want to do tai chi in a park. while looking beautiful [while doing it] is important i also would like to utilize tactics and force, not aggression. i dont care at all for spirituality (i follow a different religion), and while tradition is important it is not major to me. i dont mind having balance spiritually but i have excellent physical balance.

My results on this quiz was Aikido but it didnt seem accurate...?

  • @aleshiaann

It's possible to learn anything at home. In fact, you can look up home-made Molotov cocktails and find online tutorials.

But with martial arts, it's extremely beneficial to have a teacher correct your stance and small mistakes as you learn, or else the mistakes will built upon each other, and you'll end up with countless bad habits.

  • I got Kenpo, which I think makes sense for me. I have studied Tae Kwon Do, Isshinryu, and some Shorin ryu karate. As far as all the people dissing Kenpo, they watch too many "cage fights," which are controlled by rules. Not everything works in the street! And just because you studied "karate," it doesn't mean Kenpo has nothing to offer you; All martial arts have something to offer!

  • Hi, I appreciate you doing this test, and my tendency to regard Kempo as the right art for me was strengthened.

I got around 86% on Kempo. So I though that I could think backwards in relation to the test, as in knowing the right answers to scoring 100% on a given martial art would allow me to change to change my own thinking in order to optimize my efficiency in Kempo.

Can you tell me (through private message/ send me an email) with the answers for a 100% Kempo person?

    Thanks in advance ;)

  • Hi and thanks for the quiz. I took it 2 years ago and started Ninjitsu and Aikido at over 50 years old. I am very fit from dance and yoga but still had injuries mostly to the shoulder , so you could say my ego took a beating. I have had over a 3 month break and I find I do miss it. So I would like to add that the older beginner really needs to work with their attitude and awareness.

I dont plan to give up. thanks from LIVING IN GERMANY.

  • I got Kenpo this is the best martial art when it comes to Chinesse and Japanese Most Pyschical and most popular Martial arts Very uncommon very unorthodox too This Is A Recommended but the only problem is that the state of West Virginia Doesn't teach this Martial art other Than my current martial art style is wrestling but the only problem is that Its Very Difficult To defend yourself in streets with wrestling if you can't Lift the person and you are more likely going to struggle to lift Bigger opponents which is stupid But other than that my results were Great.

  • @Jjohnny

It seems like your kinda like me as far as martial arts is concerned. For someone like you,I would recommend jui jitsu or karate. If your like me,a stephen seagul kinda guy,I recommend karate/jui jitsu for speed, and when you fight someone with no experience, you exert less energy in a fight, which is perfect, especially for a hs student.

  • I've been doing shaolin kungfu for the past 5months now. Although I have felt like I've needed more. I've wanted to know a bit about Aikido because I've always loved the art itself and thought it looked terrific although I would but open to different martial arts just not tai chi

  • HEY!! i looooove your quiz!! i always got karate and it makes me happy because, i love martial arts but...karate just drives me wild. i have like, a tear that comes to my eye when i think of karate grand master, he's so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! anyways look i have a question. i got high on karate but low on MMA and judo, this makes me sort of concerned because, i want to try daidojuku combat karate and that's basically a form of MMA. do you think maybe I shouldn't try it? even though it's a form of karate and budo? maybe since i got very high on Aikido, I should do shotokan!!! since shotokan starts to turn into aikido at a certain point, it makes more sense. anyways, thanks for your answer. i can't get enough of your quizzes :)

  • None of these styles would work in the real world it is all stances and forms, good style are boxing, kickboxing, mauy thai, any ju jitsu and wrestling, none of the listed styles compare to these. So long story short if you want to fight learn these.
