Thread Topic: ummm....tryouts?

I have tryouts coming up for Lacrosse. I'm new to the team, but have been playing for a while. However, I'm really, really bad. Like, not in the insecure way, where you think you are bad, but are really good, but just bad. I'm slow, but not the slowest, never know what I am doing, and barely catch anything. On top of that, I barely cheer anyone on do to being introverted. My anxiety is at an all-time high, since I'm worried about being cut.
-
They don't really cut people I don't think, but then again they never had me. I try, and don't slack off, but my Coach warned everyone their position on the team isn't safe, so mine isn't safe. Also, they are announcing their selections at practice. Not over the internet, where if I get cut, I can sulk around. Around other people, who can make things worse. I don't know if I will get cut, since it will make the school look bad, (due to reasons) but I'm still concerned.
-
So this leads to my question. If I get cut, how do I hide my disappointment and sadness? I'm pretty sensitive, and I really don't want to cry around people who go to my school. How do I hide my dismay, and/or get over being cut?

I'd recommend finding a secondary interest or another way you can be a part of the sport without being on the team. I did performing arts in highschool, and while I was blessed with many good opportunities, every once in awhile your expectations just don't meet reality. In those instances where I didn't get the solo I wanted or the spot in a skit I had to ensure there were other things for me to do so I didn't feel so out of place.
Instead of being on the team perhaps there is a position in your sports division that needs to be filled. Another sport might work, sure. But if you're not interested in another sport I'd recommend going up to your coach now and asking if she needs and extra help with anything. Maybe they need more transportation or you could help start a fundraiser to help with funding for new gear. Anything you can do to make yourself important to your team despite your skill will increase your chances of staying on the team,
If they reject all your attempts to get involved I'd say you should consider if those are the sorts of people you want to surround yourself with in the first place. It feels good to know that you're wanted where you're at, so definitely don't push yourself into a potentially toxic environment -
One more thing to consider is a sport where you're not competing against others, just yourself. Track or swim are awesome because it doesn't matter if you're the best. All that matters is that you care about your team and want to improve

Thank you for this advice! I am in another club so I have somewhat of a backup. I just really don't want to be cut. I can find other teams, but I like the people on the team, and really want to keep learning and improving myself with them.

They announce selection today, so gonna give an update later ig
