I was playing volleyball and when I was spiking the ball over the net, I swung too early then tried to set it over the net. The ball hit me hard in the wrist and it bent way backward. How do I know if I sprained it or just hyperextended it or something?

I don't know much but you can get an X-ray done. If no fracture then possibly sprain.
I once had such sort of injury. As much as I remember, my injured and a normal finger were tied together, some ointment was put, and kept an ice pack over it. It healed in a week. -
Being a gymast,I get hurt a lot!Spraining parts of my body is the most common injury that I reguarly encounter.Ive also over extended and twisted parts of my body to.Being the most recent injury,I was stretching by doing a bridge,and a bent a little to far.This happened yesterday,so now my sides hurt.I would keep ice on it,and rub it.That usually works.

That sounds like a sprain, but I'm not that sure because I've never actually sprained my wrist, but I've only sprained my ankle two or three times.

If it is over extended,you should be able to bend it back farther than normal.If its sprained,it would usually feel like its been twisted.What does it feel more like to you?

I would say its hyperextended.
p.s.On my last post,I put over extended.I meant to put hyperextended. -
Well, it hurts to bend it back... it feels tight when I do. I've never twisted my wrist so I dont know what that would feel like. It even hurts not doing anything.

It is not swollen but it is a little bruised.

You should immediately see a doctor. Don't make that wrist worse.

I will try... my mom doesnt think it is sprained... she ignores me when I tell her that it hurts. I will try though. thanks for the advice, aadee and everyone else.

Today my wrist was pretty sore, but much better!
