Mason sat down next to Chris's brother, fiddling with his hands.
-
“Where have you two been?” Tristan asked from across the table, watching Mason. “We were watching a movie upstairs, “Chris replied, setting down the plates of food and sitting across from his friend. “No, y’all were napping! I walked in on you two cuddling ‘n stuff~” Justin teased, giggling. Chris blushed bright red, glancing over at Mason.
-
Mason flushed. 'Er, were we?' he asked, trying to play dumb. He rubbed the back off his neck nervously. 'I-I don't remember that-'
-
“I think you were hallucinating,” Chris said with a chuckle, a hint of nervousness in his voice. “Why were you peeping, anyways, huh?” Tristan said with a smirk, crossing her arms. “Tryna get something out of his room?” “What?! Noooo-“ Justin said, guilt on his face as he smiled nervously.
-
Mason chuckled, picking at the skin next to his fingernail. ‘Sure you weren’t~’
-
Justin scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, slumping back into his seat as Tristan giggled at him. Chris chuckled as his mom came into the dining room, carrying cups stacked together and a pitcher of water. “I’m so glad you could join us, Mason~” Chris’s mom said with a warm smile, setting down the cups and pitcher of water. “How’s school been?”
-
‘Thanks for letting me stay,’ Mason said with a small smile, running his hands through his hair. ‘Uh, yeah, it’s been okay,’ he said convincingly.
-
Chris looked over at Mason, frowning a little. “That’s good to hear,” Chris’s mom said as she set each cup down by each kid, filling it up. “I got an A on my test today,” Tristan said, smiling proudly. “I also did-“ “No you didn’t, you got a B!” Justin glared at Tristan, kicking at her leg under the table. She yelped, kicking him back playfully. Chris rolled his eyes, chuckling softly. “Cut it out, you two-“
-
Mason chuckled quietly and fiddled with a curly piece of his hair. ‘Your siblings are ridiculous,’ he said quietly to Chris.
-
“Tell me about it,” Chris said quietly with a chuckle, gently nudging Mason’s foot with his own. “Well, I’m better at math than you!” “Well, I’m better at English than you-“ Chris sighed, rubbing his face with his hand. “Quiet, you two,” Chris’s mother said, laughing softly. Chris started to make his plate bus his mother stopped him, waving her hand out. “Prayer, remember?” She spoke, taking the twin’s hands in her own. ‘Right, sorry,” he said with a chuckle, taking Tristan’s other hand and extending his to Mason.
-
Mason smiled awkwardly and took Chris’s hand. He used his other to fidget with the fabric of his pants under the table.
-
Chris’ mother said grace quickly and everyone dropped their hands, Chris’ hand lingering in Mason’s for a second longer before letting go. He started making himself a plate, making sure to get what he wanted before his siblings could devour the food.
-
Mason didn’t think much of it and mainly waited till everybody had their own food before taking his.
-
“You excited for the big game, Chris?” His mother asked, smiling at her son. Chris took a bite of his food, nodding. “I don’t have to go to that, do I?” Tristan whined, taking a bite of her food. “Yes, hun, you’ve gotta go,” their mom said, chuckling softly. “Ugh, but soccer’s so boring,” Tristan complained, slumping in her seat.
-
Mason chuckled, putting some food on his plate and biting into it. ‘I agree with you there, Tristan,’ he said jokingly.
