“Not gonna lie, I could use some new shirts,” Chris said with a chuckle, leaning against Mason’s side. He looked over and froze, seeing Jordan walking in their direction. f---, this can’t end well- -
Mason chuckled, not noticing Jordan yet. 'Fair. But you're paying.'

“Y-Yeah, obviously-“ Chris spoke, his voice shaking a little. “Hey, you uh, you wanna check out this store?” He asked, pointing at a random shoe store and starting in that direction.

Mason raised an eyebrow, following him skeptically. 'You need some new shoes or something?'

“I do, yeah- Mine are uh, definitely getting worn out,” Chris said with a chuckle, a hint of nervousness seeping into his voice.

Mason frowned. 'Are you okay, du-' He glanced over and noticed Jordan, heart sinking. 'Oh.'

Chris sighed, gently squeezing Mason’s hand. “C’mon, let’s go to that thrift store you wanted to, okay?” He said, looking over at his friend. “I’ll pay for everything, my treat, alright?”

Mason looked down and nodded, holding onto Chris's hand with both of his. 'O-Okay.'

Chris rested his other hand on top of Mason’s, rubbing the backs of his hands with his thumb. “You’re okay, I’m right here,” he spoke softly, leading Mason away.

Mason pulled one hand back and wiped his eyes, nodding.

Chris led Mason to the store and pulled him inside, letting go and wrapping his arms around his friend. “I’ve got you, bud,” he spoke softly, rubbing his back.

Mason exhaled shakily, leaning against him.

Chris hugged Mason close, running a hand through his hair as he tried to comfort him.
