Witches have lived in isolation for years. Their magic is darker and far more limitless than most magicians and no one knows why that is. It also doesn't help that the only witches that ever seem to pop up are in the most isolated community in the land, the mouventiers. These people worship a god of death and have a colony on every continent and recently, in the largest colony called the apple orchard, a witch has started selling homunculus. Who's buying? Why is she selling homunculus? Most importantly, what do the homunculi think? You can make as many homunculi as you want but if you make a human you have to make a homunculus for them.
