"Whatever." Maeve muttered, looking down at her shoes.

Chester leaned over so he could look Maeve in the eye. ‘Are you OK?’ he repeated.

"Fine." Maeve said, clearly not fine. "What do you want?"

Chester wrapped his arm around her shoulders. ‘To make sure you’re OK,’ he said softly. ‘You don’t seem fine. What’s wrong?’

"I dunno, maybe it's the fact that you blew up in the library?" Maeve said, though not trying hard to pull away. "And then sent me to my room like I'm a little kid?"

Chester pursed his lips. He looked down at the ground. ‘Do you remember when you got your first girlfriend?’ he said softly, looking back at Maeve.

Maeve nodded. "What does that have to do with anything?"

‘Well, it was about a year ago, right? You two were in your bedroom. I accidentally walked in to tell you it was time for dinner, and I saw her kissing you,’ he said with a small chuckle. ‘Do you remember that?’

Maeve blushed, looking incredibly embarrassed. She nodded.

Chester smiled. ‘And then you shouted at me and wouldn’t speak to me for our week?’

Maeve rolled her eyes. "That was different!" She said, though she seemed less upset now.

‘How so?’ Chester asked, smiling.

"Well, you didn't know we were together until then, right?"

Chester frowned. ‘How did you already know Jayden and I were together?’
