Ever since he'd moved to this town, he'd had nightmares. Memories of the life he'd left behind to come here, warped and corrupted until reality and fiction blended into a hazy mix. Guilt twisting in his gut like a knife. It might as well have been one, for all the pain it caused him. He used to find relief in waking, now life was worse than his nightmares.
Perhaps he deserved it. Maybe this was some cruel form of justice, punishing him for his past mistakes. As he stared at the ceiling, sprawled out in his bed, he wondered if he should have come to this wretched place at all. The gang of survivors he'd stayed with had caught onto his treachery, noticing that their packs were lighter whenever someone wasn't watching that odd barber. It didn't feel like stealing though. The survivors were as bloodthirsty as the zombies. All the decent people had died off long ago, only leaving selfish adrenalie junkies like him behind.
So he'd come back to the apartment, hiding from survivors and zombies alike. His food supplies were dwindling despite his already frugal diet. Months ago he would've killed to be this thin. He sat up, groaning and putting his face in his hands. He had to get up eventually. At some point, he had to. Yet somehow, that simple act seemed so daunting. -
Ellenor had never felt so isolated in her entire life. She knew what lay out there, the world totally not the way it was any more. The screams of her neighbors and friends were still fresh in her mind, like a scar that could never heal. Thanks to her supplies of food and water she had managed to loot from a few shops down the street and the fully barricaded house, she had kept herself going. She missed the open grounds and the fact that she never got far in her career in the military. But this was reality and she hoped that the world would at least go back to the way it was.
.But being isolated from the rest of the world was slowly making her insane, and she resolved to venture out into the outside world in search for a safer location, because sooner or later they would find her. Those disgusting creatures from her worst imaginations. Packing some food, a waterskin, a flashlight and her silver dagger she prepared for the inevitable. Ellenor was not someone to go down without a fight. -
Jake woke up not scared due to him always having a firearm near him. The zombies would barley ever come out to his barn and the ones that did got shot. He woke up his dog jack and headed to get his food, being a farmer in the apocalypse he could get food easily. But today he was running low on dog food, he knew that in the city there was a stash of cans and bags full of dog food. He grabbed his waterskin, full of clean water, his dog his trusty 9mm pistol and a wooden plank with nails in it and jumped in his old tractor. Ready to go into the city.

Adair descended the stairs of what used to be a fairly decent apartment complex with uncertainty. The elevators had been down for a long time now, and the undead traveled slowly enough that she was pretty confident she'd get away if she encountered any in this stairwell, but even looking at the awful things made her queasy, and though she made this short trip at least once a week, the anxiety of possibly coming across one of those walking corpses put her on edge.
She left the apartment building quietly, unarmed and vastly unprepared. -
Montresor carried the suckers over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and proceeded to look through the cabinets to find any salvageable food. He found a good amount of canned goods, bagged rice, and beans but then he hit another jackpot, some coffee and a package of off-brand Oreos. He whistled and started collecting. It wasn't gonna last him a week but it'd last him a good 4 days if he was careful. He gathered the food in his backpack and took the trash bags in the bottom sink. He also decided to search for some batteries. He found some kid toys that he'd have to come back to loot and a tv remote but otherwise nothing. He packed up and avoided going through the other rooms in case of rotting people.

Justin forced himself to leave the bed, swinging his legs over the side and standing up. His vision darkened for a moment from the sudden movement and he leaned against his desk until it faded. Drawing in a sharp breath, he looked out the window. For now, it was relatively empty.
He picked up his "sound grenade", which was just a Bluetooth speaker strapped to an MP3 player with duct tape. See, the zombies were attracted to sound, specifically human sounds like screaming. If he was forced to it, he'd play a recorded scream on the Bluetooth speaker and lob it away from him. At least, in theory. He'd never used it before.
He shoved it and a few other basic necessities into a backpack. Flashlight, toothbrush and baking soda, some bottled water and a half-eaten pack of crackers. A change of "fresh" clothes. A bar of soap. Spare batteries and a lighter. A kitchen knife. Just some basic things he might need if he was forced to run. Once they were all clumsy arranged in the bag, he shrugged it over his shoulder and painstakingly unlocked his apartment door.
He headed to the stairwell, since there had been no power in ages to run the elevators. No lights either, so the only thing cutting through the darkness were the sun rays filtering through the windows and his own flashlight. -
Ellenor turned, taking a last glance at the shelter she had lived in, then sprinting to a what used to be her neighbors house across the street. The air smelt of difference, the sight around still Ellenor tried to comprehend. There were people. Bodies littered around the streets. Burnt cars and destroyed buildings, the list was endless. Bringing out her dagger, she scanned the area, knowing nothing was safe. Dolyhaven wasn't a big street, so she thought no one would be left, that had not been turned
Ellenor decided to head north, hoping this was a dream, fighting the urge to go. back to the house.
She continued, trailing the corners, looking for any signs of life..or otherwise. -
Jake was tired but being tired in the zombie apocalypse wasn't that weird, plus he could drive in his sleep. Along the side of the road he saw bodies ,dead and undead, however not often. Jack was asleep safe under his feet, the old dog could put up a fight if he needed to and zombies don't like the smell of peppermint or vinegar, on dogs at least. The city was a while away but he didn't care, with no people around to drive cars or clutter the roads it was beautiful. The road he was on rarely had cars on it but he could remember where the cars that were on the road were.

Once out of the building, the anxiety doubled down and made her nauseous. The air outside reeked of decaying flesh. It permeated everything and reminded her that all of these people had been desperate to survive at some point, just like her. It was a good reminder not to get cocky, but she wished she could remember what fresh air smelled like anymore.
She glanced everything over a few times, taking her time to scrutinize her surroundings before she started off down the street, toward her coworker's place. -
Montresor slipped carefully into apartment 502. It was bloodier, but what alarmed him was the lack of bodies. He crept carefully. It reeked of death. He reached into his pocket and took out a switchblade. A sound came from deeper inside the house. He walked a bit further and peaked around the corner into the full living room. There were two bodies, and one was standing. He quietly backed up then set down the light. Opening the apartment door silently was an issue, the hinges were so rarely used anymore. He opened the door carefully and on the other side he heard a noise. This was bad.

Justin headed down the stairwell, covering his nose with a cloth bandana as the stench of rotting corpses wafted towards him. The first time he'd left his apartment building, he hadn't even known about the apocalypse. That was an experience he didn't enjoy reliving. But he was braver now, stronger than he had been.
His flashlight flickered and panic shot through him, hitting it until the beam was steady again. So much for bravery. Who was he kidding, really? This apocalypse hadn't strengthened him. It made him weaker than ever, physically and mentally. His stomach would've been growling if it hadn't been silenced by the reek of death.
He slipped on something wet in the dark, landing hard on the stairs as the flashlight flew out of his hands. He could taste blood from where he'd bitten down on his cheek. The flashlight landed with a deafening clatter, but not before illuminating the corpse he'd just slipped on. Still fresh, based on the blood he'd just slipped in. Justin clapped his hand over his mouth, stifling a scream. Not that it mattered now. The flashlight flickered out, leaving him in darkness as he waited tensely for the familiar growl of a flesh eater. -
Ellenor gasped, kneeling beside a car, the sight ahead sending chills down her spine. There were two of them, disgusting creatures with grotesque faces over the far end of the street munching on what looked like remains of an unlucky persons brain. Her mind screemed danger, but she clearly had to go through them.
They were child looking monsters, so she felt confident enough. Readying her dagger, she jumped from behind the car, using the momentum to fling the dagger at them, catching the first on in the head, swiping it clean off. The second let out a shrill cry dashing towards her. She fainted an attack, before planting her foot in it's chest, sending it flying into a building, glass shattering everywhere, making a loud noise. Her cover was blown because more zombies with their arms stretched began to advance from the buildings towards her.
`Damnit`she said, retrieveing her dagger and running like her life depended on it, because it did. -
He made it to the city, as he stopped his tractor he heard the not so familiar sound of what he dubbed as crawlers, zombies who had no legs. He locked and loaded his 9mm, opened the door and shot it. It made a loud noise, loud enough to be heard all around the city. He loved the fight and it dwindles their numbers down a bit. As he moved towards the retail store, walkers and crawlers came from a few directions but we're quickly dispatched.

505, 504, 503, 502...
She stood in the hallway of the apartment complex her coworker had called home. Finding the building itself was no problem- she'd driven her acquaintance home from work on more than a couple occasions. Remembering which apartment had belonged to the girl? That was going to be more trouble.
She felt vulnerable standing here dumbly as she tried to recall the exact unit. Did it really matter? Couldn't she just check them all until she found what she was looking for? The only problem would be the increased risk of encountering one of those monsters in one of these cramped apartments, and she was still fairly confident she'd beat a walking corpse down the stairs any day.
She had almost made up her mind when she heard the muffled sound of growling coming from behind one of these doors. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end. Should she just leave and abandon her quest altogether? No, that seemed pointless. All she had to do was stay quiet and keep out of the offending apartment. Separated from whatever was making that noise by the door it didn't have the dexterity to operate, she felt safe enough to stay, but cautious enough to stay on guard.
She crept down the hallway silently, standing outside each door for a moment to listen. 504 was clear. 503, directly across from it, also seemed still. As she came to rest outside 502, however, she could make out the sound on the other side. This was the one.
She had resolved to walk away and steer clear, and began to turn to do so before noticing a light moving through the crack under the door. It had appeared suddenly, trembling for just a moment as if being handled before sitting still. Wait, what use would one of these things have for a light?
She stood, wide eyed and fearful outside the door. Was there a person here? Like, a living human being? She hadn't seen one since before the outbreak, having gone home from work early after hearing about it and stayed there until it had destroyed everything. By the time she had emerged again, everyone in her city had apparently already been turned.
She extended a hand to the doorknob, unsure of what to do. The sound of growling was unmistakable- one of those things was in there. But if there was a chance to find another human being in this chaos? It was an easier decision than one might think, or at least it was for her.
She rested the hand tentatively on the doorknob now, and was startled by the metallic jostling sound it made when she did. She pulled her hand away quickly, taking a single step back, but not retreating. Would that little sound have alerted the monster inside?
She shook her head before the anxiety could get to her. She had to know if someone was here. Without another thought, she pulled the door open quickly. -
Montresor backed into the apartment and turned to face his biggest threat currently. He figured it would be better to kill this thing instead of facing whatever was outside. Human or monster it would just be another inconvenience. Killing this monster would net him the resources in this apartment. He tightened his grip on the switchblade before carefully crouching down to the ground and taking off his backpack. He slid the handles of his circular light around his wrist then stood up and crept towards the monster. He rushed at it once turning the corner, quickly stabbing through the eye then jerking his arm to the side, the zombie's neck made a popping sound before it dropped. He pulled his knife out of it's eye socket and went to investigate the rest of the apartment.
