"Can you believe it? Mr. Whimsy's dead. And they replaced him with that woman," Helen said, speaking the last two words with venom.
"I know," Jaime said. "Wait, did they say she was just subbing or is she permanent?"
"I think she's staying," Helen replied. "I wish she was just a sub, though.
"Yeah," Jaime said. He needed to find something to cheer the both of them up. Oh! "Want to race to the vending machine? I saw there was only one bar of chocolate left." If there was anything they shared, it was their love for chocolate.
"Yeah," Helen said. "ReadySetGo!" And she sped off, determined to finally beat him.
"Wait!" Jaime yelled, and ran after her. He was the one who initiated the race, he was supposed to say that.
Luckily Helen didn't get too far ahead, and in a few moments they were neck and neck. Then as the vending machine came into sight, they both sped up, but Jaime was faster.
He hadn't been checking to see how far behind Helen was, so when he got to the machine he covered the money taker with his hand so that she couldn't interfere and slipped his cash inside.
Helen arrived just as the machine ate his money. "Even when I cheat you still beat me," she pouted, gasping for breath. She had never been much of a runner, not to say she was unhealthy.
"All in a day's work," Jaime said with a grin. He pressed E2 and watched as the spiral spun and gave him his well-deserved chocolate.
"Can you at least share?" Helen asked while he got it out of the little compartment at the bottom.
"And what would prompt me to do that?" Jaime asked with a small smile, standing up straight.
"I'll ask nicely," Helen offered.
"Aren't you supposed to do that anyway?"
"Please?"
"Nope." Jaime said. He began walking to class before they were late.
"C'mon," Helen said and poked him in the upper arm.
"Ow!," Jaime said. "How are your nails so –"
He was interrupted by Helen's scream. She was gripping her upper arm, red blood seeping through her fingers.
"Helen!" -
After a minute, sirens blared from below, causing traffic to halt in their wake. Opening her eyes, Koshi could see that there was an ambulance and a police car rushing towards...
"s---" the fallen angel muttered, flapping her wings once and speeding off yet again. Landing on a rooftop, Koshi peered down and watched as one of her new students had been laid on a gurney, with several medical practitioners huddled around. About 10 feet away stood a troubled Jaime, who was both confused and angry. Deciding not to intervene, she watched as the ambulance drove away and the police got their statement -
(So sorry, I forgot)
Jaime was tense, confused, and upset. What caused her to get hurt? Nothing had happened! Helen hadn't done anything!
A police officer walked up to him. "You were with Helen Fulton when this happened?"
Jaime nodded, not knowing what to say.
"What caused her injury?" the officer asked.
Jaime shook his head. "I don't know," he replied. The officer gave him an eyebrow raise of disbelief. "We were walking away from the vending machine. She poked me to try and get me to give her some chocolate. I was about to comment on how sharp her nails were when out of the blue she grabbed her arm and started screaming. Nothing caused it, it just happened."
"Things like this don't just happen, Jaime," the officer narrowed his eyes at him.
Jaime looked up at him. "I don't know what else to tell you. That's exactly what happened."
"We'll get the footage from the vending machine," the officer said. "Then we'll see. Good day."
When the police managed to wrangle the camera footage from the school, they found it to be exactly as Jaime said. There was nothing they could go on. They couldn't investigate the case, so they looked into it no farther and closed it. -
After falling to the ground, Koshi rounded the corner with an entirely blank expression. After seeing some blood on the floor, and a little on Jamie, she gasped and covered her mouth.
Rushing up, she placed a hand on his back and spoke with a bit of concern in her voice. Sure, she could easily fake human emotions, however seeing him like this gave her a feeling of guilt. Slightly.
"Hey, hey, are you alright? What happened, where's your friend?" Softly rubbing his back, careful not to seem too caring
