(Well where else would she be sprawled out on her bed? Lol)
Evelyn couldn't really talk either. No one had been able to teach her which letters make which sounds, because she couldn't hear him. Sometimes if someone did something unexpected or something she didn't like, instead of saying, "Hey!" she'd let out something like an "Ack!" or a "Uaagh!" or possibly a squawk, or some other form of exclamation. She couldn't hear herself speak, so she never really knew what came out.
Evelyn would sometimes hum a tune. She hummed the notes based on the vibrations she felt in her head and throat. Her parents would give her advice like if a note was too sharp or flat, or if she needed to work on a better tune or something.
Evelyn let out a sigh and shut her notebook. She had just gotten a horrible case of writer's block at the climax of the story.
She opened her window. Since their roof was extremely steep, she sat on the windowsill. It worked well enough. Evelyn sat there with her chin resting on her fist which was propped up on her knee, and tried to figure out her story that she was writing. -
(lol i just didn’t know for sure)
Aiden walked upstairs and turned to one of the doors, assuming it was Evelyn’s room. He knocked on the door then paused, mentally facepalming. He slowly opened the door and walked inside, seeing Evelyn sitting on the window sill. He stood there awkwardly for a moment, wondering whether he should go over to her or wait to be noticed. -
Suddenly Evelyn got an idea for her story. It was rather good, in her opinion. One with adventure and a splash of romance just to keep things a little interesting. She didn't really know why romance was one of the most read genres, but if that's what her readers wanted, that's what they would get.
Evelyn leaped down from the sill and plopped herself on the bed, reaching for her notebook.
But before she opened it, she noticed, out of the corner of her eye, that there was a man in her bedroom. She looked at him. Or rather, stared at him. -
Aiden waved hesitantly at Evelyn, stay in his awkward stance at the door.
(brain died :’)) -
Evelyn sat up straight, leaving her notebook and pencil on the bed. She motioned to him, 'Are you Aiden King?'
-
He watched her hands as they moved fluently, though he couldn’t understand it. Guess I should’ve brushed up on ASL. He nodded hesitantly, guessing it was a yes or no question.
-
Evelyn brushed her auburn curls back. 'So what exactly are you supposed to do? My parents didn't fill me in on much,' she motioned.
-
“F—k,” he muttered, realizing this would be a lot harder to do since he didn’t fully understand ASL. He looked around for a moment then pulled out his phone, typing something down. ‘Sorry, I’m not the best at ASL.’ He walked over to Evelyn, holding his phone out.
-
Evelyn quickly read his phone and made an 'o' shape with her mouth. She made a gesture that anyone would understand meant that she wanted to take his phone.
-
Aiden nodded, handing Evelyn his phone.
-
She then typed in what she had been trying to tell him.
-
Aiden looked at the phone as she typed, nodding. He gestured for Evelyn to hand the phone back.
-
And she did just that.
-
He took the phone and typed something down, showing it off and letting Evelyn read it. ‘Your parents said I’m like a helper, help you out with things, keep you out of trouble. The basics.’
-
Evelyn made a face and took the phone. 'I don't want to be put on a leash.'
